I went and saw the hives last tuesday and to my surprise there was an amazing opening band called the pattern. I was stunned for I had never heard them before. I enjoyed their performence so much they had wonderful stage presents and the lead singer oh my goodness he was a beautiful creature. The music just made me dance till I could not dance any more. If you are looking for a new band to listen to, pick up the patterns cd it shall not disappoint.

Buyer beware: Knee-slapping comedy record using retro 60's rock act as its target. Exaggerated, annoying vocals over tired mc5-esque music. Poking fun at the Strokes, White Stripes, and the current flooded market of mopped headed old skool rockers, the Pattern do their own Weird Al versions of the Hype. Hell, they even mock the Dolls and the Stooges. Awesome. Took me awhile to figure it out, though. At first, I was like: "The only reason this band gets any shows/press is because the singer owns Lookout! records." But then I realized the joke, and it was on me. See, by exploiting real rock 'n roll, the Pattern forced me to take a look at myself, like all the best records do. Maybe we all take music a little too seriously. Maybe I should start working out. Because if this record isn't what i think it is, God help us all...

The first thing I noticed when I first heard this album were the catchy riffs. Twangy guitars and sharp drums along with smart basslines. The lead singers voice is whiny, but it sounds good with the album. So, all politics aside, this is a rockin' album that will keep you wanting more.

The Pattern sounds like a punkier version of the Strokes, with much more snottier vocals. This cd is great if you're into the sudden burst of garage punk bands (like I am). I would reccomend you buys this if you like the Strokes, or are looking for a new band with lots of energy.
