Book Description

June 1997 Contemporary Issues Series
Nothing more precious is at stake than how we view ourselves as a nation. A white-hot flash point has ignited intense arguments over immigration. The source: an influx of illegal aliens crossing U.S. borders; entering major cities; and, in the minds of many, wreaking havoc with depleted resources, job availability, social services, education, and law enforcement. The fear is so strong that politicians have actually suggested building barriers on our borders, denying social services to illegal aliens, and denying citizenship to infants and children. Should we be true to our heritage and welcome all who enter? Should we secure our borders? Who should enter? How many? Is unfettered immigration an avenue to social diversity, or a dark road to civil disaster?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book, October 28, 2005
This review is from: Immigration: Debating the Issues (Contemporary Issues Series) (Paperback)
Immigration: Debating the Issues addreses and other important questions. It is divided in five parts, This publication covers several comtroversial areas; for example: Why is there a debate about immigration, immigration historical and legal background, the economists and politics of immigration, the cultural challenge of immigration and English as the national language.

The authors focus is on comtemporary debate about immigration it preceding the immigration act of 1965.

I agree with the author because he shows the debating issues of one very specific form.

i recommend this book to all people, especially the immigrants, because it shws the real situation of the immigrant in the U. S.
