Book Description

August 2000

Claudia is stunned by Asher Genzano's story. Who is he? A fanatic? A religious zealot? A raving lunatic? Or is he what he says he is-a 2000-year-old man cursed with immortality and on a holy mission to prevent a global cataclysm?

Her search for answers leads Claudia into the past where myth, history, and prophecy intertwine in ancient legends of the Wandering Jew, biblical warnings about the Antichrist, and eyewitness accounts of the Crucifixion, the Inquisition, the Holocaust. What Claudia learns challenges everything she believes . . . about life, love, and God.

From Publishers Weekly

Christy Award-winning author Hunt takes on the Legend of the Wandering Jew in this apocalyptic evangelical Christian novel. Asher Genzano, an employee of Rome's peace-loving Global Union organization, stuns his American colleague Claudia Fischer when he claims to be 2000 years old. Cursed to wander the Earth until Christ's return, he has soughtAand foughtA prospective anti-Christs in each generation. He is convinced that the anti-Christ of 2000 is their suave, cosmopolitan boss, rapidly rising to international power by covertly crushing his opposition. The plot is creative, though not quite up to the standard Hunt established with By Dawn's Early Light; a few loose threads still dangle at the conclusion. (Aug.)n

More About the Author

Christy-Award winner Angela Hunt writes for readers who have learned to expect the unexpected in novels from this versatile author. With nearly four million copies of her books sold worldwide, she is the best-selling author of more than 100 works ranging from picture books (The Tale of Three Trees) to novels.

Now that her two children have reached their twenties, Angie and her youth-pastor husband live in Florida with Very Big Dogs (a direct result of watching Sandlot too many times). This affinity for mastiffs has not been without its rewards--one of their dogs was featured on Live with Regis and Kelly as the second-largest canine in America. Their dog received this dubious honor after an all-expenses-paid trip to Manhattan for the dog and the Hunts, complete with VIP air travel and a stretch limo in which they toured New York City. Afterward, the dog gave out paw-tographs at the airport.

When she's not home writing, Angie often travels to teach writing workshops at schools and writers' conferences. And to talk about her dogs, of course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spiritual Message Subtle but Solid, November 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Immortal (Hardcover)
What is truly artful about this engaging and life-affirming novel is that it is every bit a well-crafted, satisfying story while remaining undeniably "Christian." That is to say, there is no heavy-handed evangelizing, which tends to make a lot of such fare more polemic than entertainment. People fortunate enough to find and read Angela Elwell Hunt's THE IMMORTAL should find it first-class fiction. But the message of Christ's love and eternal salvation is the finely measured leitmotif. And it is also the real treasure here . . .

The author is brilliant in bringing certain Scripture to bear, ever so lightly, of course, as a verbal catalyst for the denouement . . . Smartly crafted, THE IMMORTAL is a highly satisfying, spiritually uplifting book.

Book Review from the TAMPA TRIBUNE, November 4, 2000.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Hunts best, December 6, 2006
This review is from: The Immortal (Hardcover)
I have to admit, the book started rather slowly for me and I almost abandoned it on several occasions, but I rated it 5 stars because once it got going and the story line started unfolding, I couldn't put it down. It's not a thriller or supsense in any way, and yet "page-turner" would be very appropriate.

I've read some of Hunts other books and so far, The Immortal is by far my favorite. An intriguing story, memorable characters, and almost palpable setting make this book a must-read. And if you enjoy history, there's an added bonus.

If you get this book, stick it out through the first couple of chapters. You'll be rewarded with a grand story that will leave you thinking about it for days afterward. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars True to Life, July 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Immortal (Paperback)
The Immortal, written by Angela Hunt,is an extremely well written book that explores the subject of God's mercy and grace in a new and challenging way. The charecters are true to life and so are their experiences. You could almost forget that they aren't real. The painful life journey of Asher is one that we can all identify with as each one of us try to search out our purpose in this life and the balance of works versus the love of Christ. For every person who feels they must get do everything "just right" to see God, this is a must read.
