Spiritual Message Subtle but Solid,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Immortal (Hardcover)
What is truly artful about this engaging and life-affirming novel is that it is every bit a well-crafted, satisfying story while remaining undeniably "Christian." That is to say, there is no heavy-handed evangelizing, which tends to make a lot of such fare more polemic than entertainment. People fortunate enough to find and read Angela Elwell Hunt's THE IMMORTAL should find it first-class fiction. But the message of Christ's love and eternal salvation is the finely measured leitmotif. And it is also the real treasure here . . . The author is brilliant in bringing certain Scripture to bear, ever so lightly, of course, as a verbal catalyst for the denouement . . . Smartly crafted, THE IMMORTAL is a highly satisfying, spiritually uplifting book. Book Review from the TAMPA TRIBUNE, November 4, 2000.

One of Hunts best,
By
This review is from: The Immortal (Hardcover)
I have to admit, the book started rather slowly for me and I almost abandoned it on several occasions, but I rated it 5 stars because once it got going and the story line started unfolding, I couldn't put it down. It's not a thriller or supsense in any way, and yet "page-turner" would be very appropriate.
I've read some of Hunts other books and so far, The Immortal is by far my favorite. An intriguing story, memorable characters, and almost palpable setting make this book a must-read. And if you enjoy history, there's an added bonus. If you get this book, stick it out through the first couple of chapters. You'll be rewarded with a grand story that will leave you thinking about it for days afterward. Highly recommended!

True to Life,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Immortal (Paperback)
The Immortal, written by Angela Hunt,is an extremely well written book that explores the subject of God's mercy and grace in a new and challenging way. The charecters are true to life and so are their experiences. You could almost forget that they aren't real. The painful life journey of Asher is one that we can all identify with as each one of us try to search out our purpose in this life and the balance of works versus the love of Christ. For every person who feels they must get do everything "just right" to see God, this is a must read.

I was surprised by the previous review--I am an avid Angela Hunt fan and have read numerous of her books. I think they just keep getting better and better. The Immortal was an exciting story, well-told, and with a great surprise ending. I highly recommend all of Angela's books!

If you're looking for a book that blends many elements into a powerful combination, I strongly recommend this title. The literary quality is excellent. In particular, you'll find the characters very well-developed with a textured presentation not always found in fiction. The book's premise is unexpected and thought provoking, but always entertaining. If you're already a fan of Angela Elwell Hunt, then don't hesitate to buy this book. If you've never read anything of hers before, start with this book. You won't be disappointed.

Interesting premise,

I should say at the outset that I prefer Christian non-fiction to fiction. However, I read the reviews here on Amazon, thought it would be interesting, and found that The Immortal was a real page-turner - I finished it in two days and I did a lot of other things in those days!I think my expectations for this book were raised by the reviews here on Amazon. I enjoyed it, and it was rather fascinating at times, but I also felt that it took too long to get to the main point of the book. It seemed to me that everything happens in the last 75 pages or so. I also would've liked to have learned more about the organization that Claudia worked for. This part seemed rather vague, but maybe there's a reason for that? After it was over, I found myself wanting to know what happens next - I won't say what I wanted to know because I don't want to ruin the ending for anyone, but suffice it to say that the book really leaves you hanging. Overall, an enjoyable book with a unique and fascinating theme!...

I almost skipped over this book, but found it in a used bookstore and thought I would take a chance. I am SO glad I did! This was one of the best books I have ever read - based on the Legend of the Wandering Jew. The book is exciting, contemporary, the characters are well-developed ... and has no connection to the Left Behind series (see previous review that makes no sense). You're going to like this one! I found myself trying to cast actors into the characters - because it would make a wonderful movie. A gem.

This book is so well written that you are drawn into the story from the first page. The character Asher Genzano is completely absorbing and almost real. I really enjoyed the history and culture described throughout the book as well, and the idea of a potential antichrist in every generation is one that I had never considered before. I highly recommend this book and I can't wait to read more books by the same author.

A Lover of the Book, "The Immortal.",

This book is very powerful! It spun a web of deliberate tension and underscores of creativity to capture my attention and most of all my emotions. Though it reminds me of the first of the Highlander movies, it had its own twist along the way of telling an awesome story of Love, Faith, and the answer to the awe inspiring question: Why am I here!
