5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy Parnormal Mystery
Immortal is the third of a 3-book series that crosses genres. The books are sensuous, paranormal, mystery thrillers that will appeal to many readers. The characters' interactions are appealing and witty, the characters themselves, quite engaging. The story is filled with surprising twists and turns.

I really liked the concept of vampires as 'the good guys'...

I should start by saying this book is apart of a series and it's the 3rd in the series I wasn't aware of that when I started reading because it's a freebie, so I just want you the reader to know if you have never read the series before.

This book is about a family the Kahill sept of Clare Point. Other than Fin and Elena the main characters there is Mary and Victor, Kaleigh and Rob, Katy and Pete, Regan and his drug addiction and Fia and a few more. Fin decides to help out Uncle Sean by joining the local police force for the summer. When he joins to help out which he isn't too happy about BAM! there is a serial killer lurking in the shadows and starts taking out male tourists that are humans. Everyone is going crazy, especially when it's discovered that the serial killer is a vampire. While that's going on Fin and Elena relationship evolves, a Italian tourist to whom he's drawn to.

With saying that, the book started out good and I love Fin he is 1600 years old, love his humor as well as his family, Elena was nice as well don't want to leave her out. however, this book was a little slower starting out. While it seems to be getting interesting little things here and there would seem to drag on, but after saying that I don't want to take away from the story as I like it, it's just sometimes when it's suppose to be staying in the right lane it swerves and dip to the left if that makes sense. As I said I still like the story still up in the air if I want to try out the other books in the series.

I really liked the concept of vampires as 'the good guys' (well, some of them, anyway <g>). I have read this entire series--Eternal, Undying, and Immortal--and the series earns a 'recommended reading' from me.

This review is from: Immortal (Clare Point 3) (Paperback)
This book is not as good as the first two in the series. Personally, I don't like the references to the series True Blood that she uses in this book, although I do like the series. On the other hand, the story-line is okay and as always, she writes in a way that makes you feel like you actually know the characters. Overall, it's a pretty good read.

I did not realize until finishing the book that this was the third book (not first) in the series... having said that, it does stand on it's own without having read the previous books. Overall, I am a fan of vampire books and paranormal romance/mystery books in general. Although as fans of this genre can attest, there can be some really great... and some really horrible... writing within the genre. I found this one to be entertaining, well written and interesting. The concepts of the vampires being "reborn" over and over throughout the centuries as teenagers with no or only vague memories of their previous lifecycles which return as they age was interesting... a definite different twist on the immortal life. I had a few questions about the process of being reborn - such as how the rebirth process works, how they "die" when it's time to be reborn, how it's explained to them when they are "reborn" without their previous centuries of memories... etc. However, it wasn't enough questions to distract from the overall enjoyment of reading the story and now that I know it's the third book, I wonder if the earlier books will answer those questions... guess I will go buy them now and find out!

I saw a review mention there was too much sex for their liking... I found this surprising because I didn't think it had an overabundance of sex scenes, especially compared to similar books in the same genre. It definitely is not overwhelming like some of the vampire erotica books I have accidentally downloaded thinking they were romance instead of erotica. I think the picture of the cover of this book gives away that there are going to be some steamy scenes. And don't let the cheesy cover photo scare you away from this book. One of the best things about the Kindle is that no one has to see the half naked guys on the cover of your books! I guess if you are completely uncomfortable with any sex scenes, then yes this is not a good recommendation for you. However, if you enjoy the sex scenes often found in most modern romance novels (paranormal or not) then it shouldn't be anything too shocking.

Another review I read mentioned that this book was also good for young adult. I would have to disagree with that statement.... unless qualifying an OLDER young adult. I would not recommend this book for kids in the 12-16 age range. While several of the main characters are "teens", they are really adult vampires who have been reborn, and therefore are not as innocent as young adult books are. I actually enjoy a lot of young adult fiction, in addition to adult fiction, and "young adult" is not what came to mind when I read this book.

Overall, I recommend this book to fans of adult paranormal romance books, those who enjoy reading mysteries with a few steamy scenes thrown in!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a vampire story, April 4, 2011
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Call me conventional : I like my vampires to either suffer because they're cursed or revel in their beastly natures. I don't want them to be able to walk in the sun, eat fries, be gainfully occupied in selling groceries and managing arcades.

These vampires don't hunt, don't bite, don't charm. The main character falls in love and tries to solve three murders. It is not a very good mystery in the sense that the culprit is obvious almost from the beginning. It fails as a romance (no happy ending) and, as previously noted, is pretty boring as far as fantasy goes.

This book offered nothing out of the ordinary.

4.0 out of 5 stars I could do with less sex, but ...., June 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I would have liked more information as to how these people became vampires. There were references to an occurrence but no story line explaining it. Then I found out that this was the 3rd in a series! I guess I would have to read the other books to find out the origins of this family. I thought the sex scenes were a little extreme though I could see their purpose for the most part. I am continually entertained by the extent of the imagination of the different authors in presenting their version of vampiric creation, folklore and history. Wonderful! I would give this book about 3 1/2 stars but that isn't possible. I debated 3 or 4 and decided 4 was the better choice as I would definitely be interested in reading the other books by this author.

3.0 out of 5 stars Paranormal, vampire, mystery/thriller, May 27, 2011
I enjoyed readimg thus book. Suitable for adults and young adults. The Cahills are a different breed of vampire. Cursed by God, they seek for redemption by helping mankind. They can walk in daylight, eat and drink food, and age but are reborn. Third in series, I would start with book one.

Wow - this was a good book. I look forward to reading others in the series. I wasn't aware that this was part of a series when I read it, character descriptions were so good that I didn't feel like I missed out on anything. It was also a quick read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing, May 16, 2011

I really enjoyed this free read, which is very unexpected for me. I did not realize it was 3rd in a 4 book series ... which explains why I felt the story was lacking a lot of explanation, but still a very good read. I wasn't expecting the book to be such a mystery. The whodunit aspect of the book really kept me going. As for some other aspects of the book: These are not your typical Vampires that are in most popular reads. The abbreviations (V=Vampire HM/HF=Human male/female) are a little annoying, but easy to get over. The romance is good and well written. This was a very refreshing read, compared to other free read books.

4.0 out of 5 stars A different way to look at vampires., May 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I enjoyed reading this book. It was a little slow in the beginning and took a little time to finish because I had to keep coming back to it.

The characters are well-developed and robust.

The author gives you a slightly different vampire concept that I found interesting.
