2.5 stars. A mix of typical paranormal characters with a lot of fight scenes. Heavy on action, light on emotion.,

STORY BRIEF:
Vampires and demons frequently harm or kill humans. Maya is a kick-butt cop patrolling the streets of Los Angeles. During a fight she is turned into a vampire. She now works alone and continues protecting humans by fighting and destroying these creatures. As a human she used silver bullets soaked in holy water which took care of werewolves and vampires. As a vampire she is strong enough to kill demons by using their own claws to behead them. Adam appears to be human but has talents we learn about later in the story. His niece Cammie has been kidnapped by vampires. He hires Maya to help find Cammie and free her. A pack of werewolves attacks them and follows them on their search for Cammie. REVIEWER'S OPINION: This was ok as a paranormal story, but I probably wouldn't recommend it unless you're in love with the genre and like being in this world. The focus is solving the mystery and finding Cammie with a lot of action/fight scenes. The characters are standard for the genre. There was nothing unique about the dialogue. I would have liked more emotional development between Maya and Adam, other than lust. There is a touching connection between Maya and Cammie later in the story. On balance it was ok, but I wasn't surprised or delighted enough to recommend it. DATA: Story length: 281 pages. Swearing language: strong. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 5. Total number of sex scene pages: 24. Setting: current day Los Angeles and Las Vegas area. Copyright: 2009. Genre: paranormal romance. CAUTION SPOILERS: After they save Cammie and fall in lust/love, Maya leaves Adam. Her reason is that she doesn't want to love anyone because people she loved in the past were hurt. This source of conflict is not a favorite of mine. It's too easy for authors and overused in romance novels. We learn later in the story that Adam has a talent that can quickly and easily destroy a large number of enemies. When I saw this, I wondered why he didn't use his ability earlier, when Maya was in danger.

Action, Heat, and Vampires,
By Donna Tate "Donna's Books" (Orlando, FL) - See all my reviews

I love vampires and I love strong heroines and I got them both in this book. Maya Black is seriously kick-butt, and her hero, Adam, well, the guy's got secrets. (Let me just say...he's my favorite Eden shifter so far!) The chemistry between them was hot, the action blasting off the pages, and I read this book too fast!

There two characters sizzle off the page. Both characters have dominant personalities and this always can lead to amazing storytelling. I won't go into the details of the plot because there's already plenty of plot summary up, but I loved the heroine of this paranormal romance. She was the perfect mix of kick-assery and just the right amount of sympathy under her hardboiled surface. Adam for me was an okay hero. For some reason I couldn't totally feel for him. Back to the reason I gave this three stars (more like three and a half), there was so much told in the novel, but I didn't FEEL the novel. Yeah there are hot, but brief, sex scenes and vows of feelings, but it wasn't enough for me. It feels as if something was left untold. I had assumed that this was just to be left for a second book, but from what I've found there isn't one. As the first to a series this novel would be a great Other World introduction but I have a feeling that 6 months and 30 books from now it's just going to be another one if "those" books that I've read where I can't recall the character or the slightly generic vampire versus the world plots...

3.5 out of 5 stars! The chemistry between Maya and Adam burns the pages .... I couldn't put the book down! Especially since you are never quite sure what he has up his sleeve, but Adam was able to charm me just from the pages! And since he's secret isn't one you usually read about, I really liked how the author portrayed it! In truth I think the author could have made a trilogy or small series just out of these two characters. The only reason that this book didn't get a hire score from me was because the ending was good ... but not great ... with all the build up I wish it could have been better.Review By: From Me to You ... The chemistry was good, but it was a decent plot that kept the pages turning. However, I think the $7+ price will keep me from buying her books on Kindle.

Cynthis Eden is one of those writers that will keep you up until 4:00 am, just to finish one more chapter.
She puts together the most interesting combination of characters ever. The stories are always knee deep in adventure and burning up with lust. When Maya Black, ex-cop/newly turned vampire meets Adam Brody, mystery man with a problem, sparks do fly. A lot of sparks!! Maya is helping Adam find his niece, Cammie, who has been kidnapped by a very strong vampire group. Sit in front of a roaring fire, bring a big bag of chocolate chip cookies and a handy fire extinguisher (remember the sparks) and enjoy a really fun, exciting and SEXY read.

Once I started reading Cynthia Edens's, Immortal Danger, I didn't want to put it down. The pace and action of the story is good; it's also quite lusty. I've never read any of Cynthia Eden's books, but I saw this one on Amazon.com and it sparked my interest. I like the way the heroin, Maya, accomplishes what she sets her mind to. The other main character, Adam, has certain ideas about vamps, but realizes they're not all alike. You'll find yourself cheering them on as they work to save a member of Adam's family. It's a good read and I would recommend it to mature readers.

I'm a great fan of Cynthia Eden and this book was exactly what I expected from her -
absolutely fantastic! Couldn't put the book down from the word go... I love the kick-ass heroine, Mia Black,an ex-cop turned vampire. And of course we have the sexy hunk of a hero who is a shape shifter of some kind( I won't spoit it for you readers)! There's so much action,a great build-up of interesting characters with a good story line, throw in some sizzling scorching sex scenes and this book could make you willingly stay home on a Saturday night on your own! This book is a keeper for me.

enjoyable urban fantasy,
This review is from: Immortal Danger (Paperback)
When she worked for LAPD, Maya Black was known as a tough cop. Now she adds mean to her adjectives ever since she became a vampire, a change she did not want and still does not appreciate. Still kicking felonious butt, her targets are no longer human scum; she cleans Los Angeles of the paranormal dregs.
Adam Brody needs specialized help to rescue his abducted niece Cammie from a vampire horde that plans her to be a wake up snack for their master who has been asleep for ages. He is told to beg Maya to take on the job as no one else would be macho stupid or capable. Though vampires are the king and queen of liars, he is so desperate he offers his blood as payment for her saving his niece. Neither Adam nor Maya expected the attraction between them. The romance between the lead characters is excellent as he distrusts vampires and she distrusts anyone who breathes. The suspense is terrific as Maya and Adam attempt the rescue mission. However, what makes this enjoyable urban fantasy super is the paranormal species all contain differing personalities, which makes the world of Eden seem plausible. Sub-genre readers will appreciate IMMORTAL DANGER as the protagonists struggle with the attraction for one another while fighting lethal adversaries. Harriet Klausner |
