About the Author

Uta Susanna Burke has always been open minded about ghostly things, and when her daughter became interested in the paranormal, the two explored their curiosity together. They visited spooky places along the East Coast and participated in an EVP session with Bruce Tango from the Ghost Hunters show. When Uta discovered Jim Thorpe, PA, and its Old Jail, she chose it for the setting of this book. During research a strange thing happened: The setting took over and influenced, then changed the plot. Uta went along and found an ending so brilliant and powerful that she finished the story as dictated by the spirits in the Old Jail. The result was a paranormal adventure that asks, “Whose side are you on?” Growing up in a superstitious village in Germany, she now lives in New Jersey with her husband and daughter. You can reach her at www.utaburke.com

More About the Author

I grew up in a very narrow-minded, strictly Catholic village in Southern Germany where I would walk barefoot on summer evenings to fetch milk from a nearby farm.
Several years later I married a U.S. soldier who was stationed near my hometown and moved to New Jersey with him, less than an hour from New York City. On my way to a writers' conference early one morning I had breakfast in the little park outside the hotel on Broadway and 32nd Street, and there was this little old man sitting at one of the tables. He looked so much like a New Yorker and my childhood ideal of the American people. He was just sitting there with his Yankees jacket and a cup of coffee, reading the newspaper, and I spontaneously took his picture before the day unfolded and swallowed him up.
Many times I find that my stories connect with something deep inside me from way back then, and whenever I lose confidence in my writing, I think back to the barefooted little girl, and how far she had come.
If you write a teen novel that parents approve of and then they tell their kids to read it, they won't. I write for teens, truthfully, not sugar-coated, which means I show them what can happen when you use drugs or have unprotected sex. The teenage years mean sex and drama, everything else is unrealistic.
If you're an adult reading this, give the kids a break. I would not want to be sixteen again.
Your kids may not be all you dreamed of, but you're not all your parents dreamed of, either.

I live in New Jersey with my husband and daughter. You can reach me at www.utaburke.com and utaburke@gmail.com.

Uta Burke's book "Immortal Link" is captivating, historically interesting and correct. Furthermore, the story gives a realistic insight into today's youth and how they come to terms with difficult and controversial situations.
This book would have been quite helpful to me 30 years ago, when my own daughter was a young teen.
I can highly recommend this eye opening book.

Mrs Burke, IMMORTAL LINK - one word - PHENOMENAL!! I really enjoyed it, and I really really hope that you are composing more writings! By the way, you're too good-hearted - I would've done a lot more personally to Sebastian than what the spirits did - I guess you could say that I have the mind like Charlie, if something like that happened to my sister or any female family member for that matter.
I loaned my copy to a friend and he asked me to pass this on:
I recently finished reading your book "Immortal Link." I just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed it very much. It not only took my mind outside of these walls but also out of this state. As I continued to read, I could truly see myself walking the streets of a town I never even knew existed. Thanks to the knowledge that you gain through your research and all of the insightful info that you provided about Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, I would like to go there someday. I also like how you incorporated true life events with town legends/history. To have a child dig into her family's past and learn about the lives of innocent men, taken by the powerful men of that time who feared them...I could keep going but I know that your life is still going on out there. So I'll say that the best part, or one of them, is to have someone whose family may not have much, uses what little she has to bring to justice a man who thought he could get away with a crime because of who his family is and who hers is not...Once again thank you for taking me on a trip through your pages, and I hope that there will be many more.
