Transcends Five Stars,

The music recorded on this CD is well beyond being just great blues music; beyond even being just great music. John Hurt's guitar playing and singing is a life-changing experience. I defy anyone to listen to this and not be moved.
You can hear the influence that Hurt had on legions of musicians, particularly in the 60's and 70's. His guitar playing style and vocal style resonate throughout all of popular music. Mississippi John Hurt is a great "discovery" for me, make him a great discovery for yourself also.

Folk-Blues Hero at His Best,
This review is from: Immortal (Audio CD)
I originally bought this album in 1970 and it simply remains one of my all time best of John Hurt. Can't wait to replace my old scratched vinyl. The quality of recordings are excellent and the material is first shelf product. If your going to feel the hurt, then "The Immortal Mississippi John Hurt" is a must to buy.

A Folk Blues Masterpiece,
By jpbrock "blues fan" (Perrysburg, Ohio) - See all my reviews

Simply put, this recording by Mississppi John Hurt is a folk blues masterpiece. Some of the finest country blues, ballads, spirituals and dance tunes from the rural south are represented here. What makes them special, however, is Hurt's brilliant guitar work and hushed, emotional, vocal style. If your not hooked after "Richland Women Blues" there's truly a hole in your soul.
