Just Awful,
By Traci King (Indianapolis, IN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Immortal Sins (Paperback)
I can't understand what happened to Amanda Ashley's writing. This is nothing like the other books I've read by her. It is as if a novice wrote the story. It's so unbelievable and stiffly written. The characters are cardboard, their words stilted and their actions childish. The premise was a good one, but the execution was dead on arrival. I skipped around, left whole chapters unread and could barely finish it. The love story was laughable. It's the 21st-century and a 25 year old virgin named Kari meets a 700 years old vampire named Rourke. She can't bring herself to make love to him because she is constantly either afraid, confused or just plain stupid. I vote for the latter. He proposes, I suppose because she won't have sex before marriage, how quaint. I actually cheered when Rourke left her (What happened to the proposal? Perhaps the answer is in one the pages I skipped). I was hoping he would never come back. Kari was the worst heroine I have ever come across and Rourke was so dumb that I could hardly believe he was an old vampire. I could care less who ended up with who or who ended up dead - real dead not just vampire dead. I wanted Vilnius to kill them all and be done with the story. I have seen better writing in a comic book. Wow what a disappointment. Don't waste your time on this one.

I bought this book on a whim, mainly because I've read some short stories of Amanda Ashley's and enjoyed them. This book was just just beyond awful. I have read some bad books, but this one really takes the cake. Her main female was boring and the vampire wasn't interesting in the least. There was no real development of their characters or relationship. I rolled my eyes every time the main character sat down for another meal. If you read this, that's all you'll really get... A lot of tv watching, meal eating and kisses that make you feel nothing for the characters.

It was okay,
This review is from: Immortal Sins (Paperback)
I've only read two books of Amanda Ashley's - this one, and Dead Poerfect. I have to say that she is a very good writer and I love her male characters, their thoughts and feelings. They are done well. Overall, Immortal Sins was okay to me. The story line and the ideas were great. I just wish there had been more romance and more focus on the characters being together. They were seperate for a lot of this book. Not to mention when it finally got to the both of them 'making love' it was very, very disappointing.
I've also noticed that between the two books I've read that it has become a little annoying how much the female main character is eating - all the time - throughout the book. It's likely just me, but I really just didn't care what she was eating all the time. Though I am also guessing this is the authors way of writing. Anyway, I'd say this book was average overall.

Another wonderful adventure from Mandy..,
This review is from: Immortal Sins (Paperback)
I have to say I did not ready any reviews of this book before I bought it.. And I am so glad that I didnt because it seems to me many on here have been rather harsh to this book, of which I totally disagree with . I am a huge fan and feel that this book had a fun story that was unlike many of the other "vampire" books that I have been reading . I love how she made her vampire depend upon the herione to become part of the living once again. Once he got there he still had to continue to need her rather than the typical needy heroine . I felt that this book was just as amazing as any out there right now . Maybe there was not as much sex in this book but for god sakes grow up a little if all you want is nothing but screwing through the book maybe they should have been reading a different author . Amanda Ashley's books take the reader to an emotional height and the reader can figure out the rest, she doesn't need to spell it out for us, this is one of the reason why I love her so much she makes us use our imagination. Her story was an orginal and I read this book in probably 2 nights of reading.. I highly suggest that if you enjoy a great supernnatural love story then go read this one!

I totally agree with the previous review. I feel like I no longer know Amanda Ashley. I stumbled upon Amanda Ashley not too long ago. I fell in love with her Nights series and thought I would give the rest of her books a go. Disappointedly so, Ive had to force myself to finish this book, just so I could say I finished what I started. This book was something that wasn't hard at all to put down and I even found myself skipping over paragraphs to see if I can find something to draw my attention. In other words....BOOO!!

Bad romance meets interview with a vampire...,

Like other reviewers, I bought the book on a whim. However , the book was just awful. I would give it a zero if I could. The characters are flat and I can see no emotional connection between Jason and Karinna(Really how popular is the name Jason in the Renaissance era?). The author also tries to prolong the story by inserting useless information, like going grocery shopping and making a u-turn to order Chinese take-out. Also, one moment Karinna thinks she's going crazy and the next moment she's saying that she's fallen in love with the guy in the painting. Really now? They haven't event spoken one word to each other and she's already falling in love? She is also incredibly gullible. He starts leaving message like "You are my life", etc. etc. in order to trick her into falling in love with him and wishing him out and she believes him. So finally when she accidentally summoned him from the painting he expects her to support him (i.e. take him shopping for clothes, taking him to Romania and paying for all expenses...yay for her). And then she just couldn't get over the fact that he was a vampire. She kept asking him questions like "so what's it like to be a vampire?" and he would reply with something like "Its not too bad". Their conversation doesn't really get any deeper than that. Finally, when they made out, she nick her tongue on his incisors and she got grossed out, so she went to the kitchen and made spaghetti. Then I skipped a couple of chapters to the ending, only to find that she will never grow out of her stupidity. She ran away from him because she was angry that he had turned her into a vampire. He followed, declared his love, and, without much internal processing or discussion, everything is suddenly okay and she leaves with him. This book is horrendous. Do not buy.

Wait... what!?!,
This review is from: Immortal Sins (Paperback)
Ok so I bought this book just for a quick read to pass the time and I sorta want my money back. I'll admit it had a decent story-line. The vampire cursed into a painting who can only escape when someone breaks the spell. (Reminding anyone of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Fantasy Lover?)The problem with the story is the characters are so wishy-washy. The heroine is in love with this vampire but isn't willing to give up anything for him and vampire man wants to kill her at first and in spur of the moment gratitude decides to let her live??? Ummm what!?!
Anyways there could have been a great story here if the characters could decide if they are lovers or killers, and if the ending was... better. Yea so one star for this one. It passed the time but not in a good way

I'm glad I didn't read the reviews before I read this book. I love all of her books and didn't have a problem with this one. It is always a good break-a-way for me to read one of her books. Since I purchased my kindle, I donated a "few" of my Amanda Ashley books to the local library, the librarian is now an Amanda Ashley fan.

Immortal Sins,
This review is from: Immortal Sins (Paperback)
A lot of people are saying this book was awful. Well, I disagree. My only problems with this book were 2:
Yes, some of the time it was a bit Twilight-like, and the dialogue was a tad....teen-like. Because of that, a few things were not completely accurate. But besides these, I cannot find anything else wrong. So, I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about.

Vampire Jason Rourke was cursed into a painting by the wizard Vilnius for seducing his daughter. For the past three hundred years he has remained trapped in the painting until Karinna Adams wishes him free. Karinna sees the painting containing Jason Rourke in an art gallery and becomes captivated by it. The scene in the painting seems to change each time she comes back to the art gallery. She decides to buy the painting and soon notices that the man in the painting can move.Karinna wishes that he could be with her and the painting shatters releasing Jason. As Jason is unfamiliar with the modern world, Kari helps him adjust to 21st century life. She agrees to help him free the wizard's daughter Ana Luisa who was also cursed into a painting. Kari and Jason travel to Romania to free Ana Luisa but in doing so they risk the wizard's anger. Kari falls in love with Jason but does not see how they will work out their differences. Their romance is soon put to the test as Vilnius plots his revenge.
I was a little disappointed by this story,it was not what I expected. The beginning of the book was fast paced but the story started to slow by the middle. I thought that the conflict in the story could have been stronger. The villain stays in the background for too long. The hero and heroine were likeable as well as some of the secondary characters. I didn't think that this hero was as compelling as many of the heroes were in Amanda Ashley's other vampire romances. Even though I did not enjoy this book as much as I did other books by Amanda Ashley ,I am still looking forward to reading her next book. I recently ordered Everlasting Kiss her newest novel. |
