Format:Perfect Paperback
By the end of the first chapter I was fairly convinced that Gene Doucette had found this manuscript between seats on the subway because it had clearly been written as a collaboration by some of my favorite authors while they were sharing a bottle of whiskey. He has the wit of Douglas Adams, the sarcasm of Jim Butcher, the droll plotting of Spider Robinson, and the sly twists of Neil Gaiman, just to mention a few. But don't think that this means he seems imitative because he doesn't. "Immortal" was clever, fascinating, and endlessly entertaining.

I'm tempted to quote all the clever parts (which I highlighted because they were that good) but will let you discover them for yourself. As an example, one of my favorite bits from the first chapter: "I was suicidal for two solid centuries once. That was during the early part of what they now call the Dark Ages, in medieval Europe. Suicidal tendencies were de rigueur at the time, and I'm nothing if not trendy."

If there is a God, which is something that main character Adam sincerely doubts, then Mr. Doucette will write a series and get a TV show.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book but missing pages on kindle. August 3, 2012
By mike
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am enjoying the book greatly, but have so far twice been reading a part, then it skips to a totally different scene.
I am assuming this means pages are missing, and that hopefully this will get fixed asap.

Location 607 the page cuts out and just goes to the next chapter, location 1723 we are at one place talking to one person, and then the next sentence we are at a totally different place without any knowledge on how we got there. Have tried redownloading and using different readers, but no go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Immortality Never Looked This Good November 20, 2010
Format:Perfect Paperback
Reading Immortal was like a trip to the amusement park with unlimited access to my favorite rides. The main character, Adam, is charismatic and fun. As he relates new experiences to those in his past, readers are treated to stories within the main story.

I am a voracious reader and when I find a book that never once leaves me bored or irritated with predictability, I am deliriously happy. Immortal is that book. Fantasy elements, historical flashbacks, and a compelling storyline all make this one of my favorite books.

I highly recommend buying Immortal for the readers on your holiday shopping list.

Quick read. Entertaining. Worth the price, and I'm picky about this stuff. I would like to see more of this character.

Sci-fi action adventure. The Immortal character has been alive so long his memory isn't working right.

3.0 out of 5 stars Middle of the road
A very middle of the road book that could have been greatly improved by more historical study by the author, just didn't ring true to me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read!
Quite a few immortals seem boring and god-like, with either a "Woe is me" attitude or a "i will solve the world's problems!". Not so Adam. Read more
