One of the best things about the final season of Law & Order is the thread that runs through it about Lt. Van Buren and her battle against cancer. S. Epatha Merkerson gives a moving portrayal of a strong, independent woman trying not to be crushed by disease and medical expenses. As always, the acting in every episode is top-notch, and many actors who appeared in earlier years reappear in different roles. One of the finest episodes is "Immortal", which is a spin on a real situation (well described in the bestselling book "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks"). The last episode literally ends with a bang, as the police hunt for someone who plans to bomb a city school. Watching this a mere week after the Boston Marathon bombing made it especially suspenseful and relevant. As has been the custom throughout twenty years, there is very little in the way of special effects. Everything hinges upon writing and acting, and the stories are gripping, often related to headline news. Another episode that was particularly chilling dealt with people who arranged for sick relatives to conveniently die before estate tax abatements were repealed. There were no bad or mediocre episodes; the final season was simply fine.

I was a Law & Order watcher from the very beginning, but I felt that the show became rather boring during seasons 16-18, and I ws not as excited about watching it. Season 19 & 20 brought back some excitement about the investigations, and I cared about the characters again. Thank you for a great final season. I miss the characters.

Law and Order was one of those rare TV programs that featured societal issues that required viewers to THINK rather than sit and dully watch with glazed-over eyes. It also featured superb acting by the slow turn-over of regulars and wonderful opportunities for budding actors, returning stars and cameos. I understand that the viewer market drives what is hot and what is not, but for me, L&O will always be hot.

This is one of my favorite Law and Order seasons. There are many dimensions to it: good stories, an emotional drama that runs through the whole season, excellent performances. Some of the episodes are among the best in the franchise, including the very last one, The Rubber Room.

This is another interesting episode which is intricate because the initial death brings out a much bigger racket going on. This is wealthy relatives of patients with cancer picking their cancer treatment to accord with the latest tax loopholes so that the heirs will lawfully evade substantial estate taxes. In short, the patient must die at a time which fits with IRS regs. One quack doctor with a host of unproven "treatments" is their logical choice when they want to make sure nothing works on the patient. Our team goes about exposing this racket. This was a pretty interesting episode, especially for anyone who has had cancer, such as myself. You barely know who to trust in the quagmire of medicine as it exists validly without this rip off being cast into your treatment.

This is one of the last shows of this venerable long running show. It ends with this season and a twenty year run. I think the shows have remained fairly interesting with good scripts but the cast is lacking that vital spark. What is especially missing is Jack McCoy in his prosecuting prime and Lenny Briscoe in his wise cracking police prime.

There will be a new version set in LA but I think the success of that show will strictly depend on the charisma of the cast which is put together and not whether the series is set in LA or New York.

Best drama on tv. TNT/NBC made a huge mistake when they did not renew it. The last three years were a favorite. I'd recommend

This season gets off to a good start with an episode featuring a former soldier who is killed. The likeliest suspect is a law professor whom the soldier blamed for the atrocities he had to commit in the latest Iraq war with detainee torture. The professor was hired by the Justice Dept. under Bush to write a manual on the legalities of torturing detainees. Sam Waterston wants to get the lawyer but the only route seems to be via a conspiracy charge. The use of Linus Roache as the prosecutor and Jeremy Sisto as the detective in an earlier season gave this show a whole new life which continues this season.

I can go on & on about the Law & Order series...there is simply nothing that is ever wrong or stupid (as in most western genre films.)
The stories are often about real life issues or even something we know happened and in later years, maybe before half of the 20 years rolled around, the amazing Sam Waterston comes along, such a fine, fine actor. Near last few years when Alana De La Garza and Linus Roache came...this show sizzled...Sam, Linus and Alana = Amazing. This series will be forever watched over & over...great stories, superb acting...an A+ is all I end up with, right down the line.
