Great introduction-level immunology textbook,
By
This review is from: Immunology (Paperback)
While it may be argued that "Roitt" does not cover all areas of modern immunological research equally well, this book makes an great first textbook to get to know the general topics. Many color diagrams offer the necessary visual overviews of all the cell-cell/molecule-molecule interactions inherent to the topic. Professionals and researchers should be aware of the limits of this book; to all others it makes a wonderful learning aid. I haven't found another introductory book quite as good as this one. Teachers should be aware of the accompanying slides (and CD-ROMS), making the link to the textbook visually obvious for students.

Immunology by Ivan Roitt - Still the best!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Immunology, 6e (Paperback)
I used an earlier edition of this text to study for Pathology board examinations (with the American College of Veterinary Pathology), and found it readily understandable (for someone with a veterinary degree and Master's degree in pathology) and well-laid out. I was so pleased that I purchased this recently for an associate starting a Ph.D. The text has chapters covering general immunology, evolution of the immune system, species differences, and essentials for understanding most aspects of immunology, from cytokines to cells to roles in infectious disease and cancer. The new edition incorporates recent information while retaining the basic flow. Altogether, this is still the best text on the subject that I have seen!

An excellent textbook of Immunology,
By A Customer
This review is from: Immunology (Paperback)
Roitt, et. al., has presented a clear, concise and thorough review of central themes in Immunology in this authoritative text. Each page contains tutorial photographs or drawings which greatly facilitates in learning or reviewing Immunology in this excellent textbook. He first starts with the anatomy of the immune system, and works up to the fundamental relationships of the individual components involved in immune responses. These interactions are presented in a clear and user friendly format. This book is highly useful in teaching Immunology to advanced biology students, and as an excellent review text for professionals in the field.

The only reason that I gave the book 3 and not 2 stars is because of the full illustration accompanying the chapters. Other than that it is quite difficult to follow. Better write down the acronyms as you go along or else you will be lost. Very limited index.

For a good introduction to immunology, getting into some detail without confusing it;'s a good book. Not a bible of immunology but if you were after brushing up on this topic, or after learning about aspects of immunology then I think this is a nice book.

Do not touch this book!,
By samo jeverica (Ljubljana, Slovenia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Immunology (Paperback)
The text is confusing, very baddly structured and hard to read. Because of the many different authors, the text is not concise. The diagrams and tables are often unprecise, leaving you with even more questions instead of answers. The book is a absolutely not the wright choice for learning immunology. For that I recomend Alberts: MBOC (immunology chapters) and Abbas 5th ed., which are much better books.

Excellent book,

This review is from: Immunology, 6e (Paperback)
This is an excellent book on the subject. The only catch for me is that, if you are abolutely new to immunology, this book might be a little confusing at first. You have to be able to understand some basic terminology to work with this book, once you have it going through the book is absolutely pain free.

A disaster,
By HMG (PR, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Immunology (Paperback)
Unless you are already an expert in Immunology, keep away from this book. The text is EXTREMELY difficult to follow. The organization of the topics, for me, is everything but logical. The book has many colorful diagrams, but I found them confusing and hard to understand.
