It's been a couple weeks now, so I feel fairly confident in penning a rave review for this product. My adorable, separation-anxiety prone, street-found mutt, Charlie (not Houdini, as the title might imply), had gotten past every containment strategy I've thrown at him save one: Lucky Dog 6'Hx4'Wx8'L Uptown Welded Wire Kennel. But that one better in the back yard than in the living room, and the Pacific Northwest is experiencing a rather harsh, cold winter. Mind you, he's crate trained and actually prefers having his own special "den" (as long as he's not home alone). He's also not some huge monster: 55-60 lb. pit shepherd mix.
He'd gone through a couple of the standard commercial wire crates when someone suggested one of those big, heavy duty airline-style pet carriers, so I picked one up on craigslist. A heavier duty version of the Vari Kennels available here, it had cam-locks holding the two pieces together, and a double-bar cam lock door...which he defeated the first night.

After drilling and tapping eye bolts, we added a three-foot length of 5/16 rebar (yes, rebar) as a vertical reinforcement preventing the door from being pushed out, which he defeated by learning to pull the door IN. He'd while away his time spent alone pounding the door grate so hard that the welds were popping and the metal rods were sticking out, so we added a 5 mil sheet of plexiglass to the inside of the door to reduce the chances he'd hurt himself. That got shredded in about a week. We then added a couple carabiners to hold the rebar in place so he couldn't pull the door in on himself.

At first I hesitant because I thought the cage was too expensive but as soon as I unpacked it I began to realize the quality. My dog is truly an escape artist and I was tired of the daily routine of putting 10 or more of the heavy duty zip ties on the cage door in exactly the right places.

This cage is worth every penny. Now I just put him in and shut the door, that’s all.

It also gives me the peace of mind that he quickly gives up trying to escape as when I have videotaped him in this cage he just barks for about 10 minutes and then lays down opposed to trying for hours to escape.

This cage has performed so well that I just bought my second one because I travel for work all of the time. Now I have one for my home and one for my home away from home.

This crate has been a "life saver" for my escape artist pit bull... and has saved my sanity. Worth every penny, if only I had purchased it before all the other ones I tried that he either escaped out of or ate thru!

This is a great value for a police grade crate.Effective for escape artist such as pit bulls and Belgian Malinious dogs.Normally a crate this tough would cost $1000 +. THE dog went in and you could see it in his eyes! I'm not getting out of this one! Can't bend and rip the door off or eat his way out the sides!

Finally a way to keep my do safe!! My lab pit mix has separation anxiety and has jumped through windows, learned to open locked doors, and has completely tore apart my life! But thanks to this crate I'm able to leave my house knowing he's safe and my house isn't being remolded. DO NOT HESITATE to spend the money its an amazing product!

I have a 1.5 year old female German Shepard weighing in at 68b's. She is house broken, crate trained, and very obedient. The down side..... she has major separation anxiety. We use to have one of those large plastic and melt airline approved creates for her. She would walk in it willingly and lay in it when we where home, but as soon as we walked out the front door she would freak out. She is strong enough to push the door on the old crate open and "pop the latch". I began using 75lb test, zip ties. Eventually I was put to using 4 zip ties at a time just to keep the door closed and that wasn't always a guarantee. I was finally at the end of the road. I love the dog but she was destroying our house. I did some research and came across this bad boy of a crate!!! This was the best investment I have ever made when it comes to dog items. Its worth every penny! It did not take the dog long to get use to the new crate and it has done a fantastic job containing her! I recently brought the dog and the crate along on a road trip. The crate breaks down and sets back up in no time. Very easy to travel with. If it wasn't of this crate I don't know what we would have done. If you have an escape artist or you have a dog with separation anxiety this crate is a must have!!!

So far so good! Our Houdini of a dog has been contained. It's only been a week but looks like this crate is worth every penny to keep our Pitbull mix safe and secure.

I've had this for a while now and I really like how it collapses, it fits in my car with my dog when we go places for weekends etc and that's awesome. Their dog proof latch however is not dog proof, my dog gets out of it easily. Their is holes for a lock or something next to the latch that I know keep a something in to keep him from unlatching the door. I'd say this is the best dog crate I've had for my escape artist but it isn't perfect. Make sure to utilize a secondary latching system if you purchase this one...

Well I have now had this crate for 10 months and its being held together with zip ties. I'm now very disappointed with the latching system that holds the holding panels together. My 65 pound lab has bent the back panel and torn the panel around the latches in the back. So to recap, latch system isn't great, and if you have a dog that is actively trying to escape, it won't last you a year. Given the expense of this crate, I was really hoping this would be the last one I would have to buy. Save your money for a different crate.
