A lot of great info in a little book...,
By etckt (west coast) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Impact: How to Get Noticed, Motivate Millions, and Make a Difference in a Noisy World (Hardcover)
I was surprised there was so much info put into this book, but it's still easy to follow and understand. I also like the step-by-step info, lists and bullet points, making it easier and more helpful than just a long narrative. Ken does come across like the nice guy a bunch of people say he is, with quite an interesting story, but it's so not just about him and what he did (unlike some books I've read).
Before the book, I thought a lot of the stuff would just be common sense, but I was wrong. It amazed me that some aspects I once thought were the easy parts or not that big of a deal, actually are (even like picking a product name - easy, but a lot of small important considerations that really matter.) It also helped me see that done the right way, it can be easier than I thought to get my message out there and be heard, and that I knew even more people than I originally thought that could help me. I knew there'd be info about joint ventures and product launches, but Ken goes into so much detail and gives so much information, it was waaay more helpful than I expected. It also made me realize I was leaving a whole lot of stuff out when I was figuring out what goes into a product launch and how to really make impact. With all of this new info, when I AM finally ready to do a launch, I'll be better prepared and have a much better chance for success! The book also helps people like me that don't already have a big mailing list. It was helpful to read about having systems, but one of the best parts for me (other than JVs and launch info) was about automation, and deciding what to automate or not. (Automation seemed important in really helping to get the word out faster, AND easier, so it was a big issue for me.) It turns out some of the things to consider weren't as easy as I originally thought, and I've been looking at it all wrong, and would have worked on automating some of the wrong thinss. Now I know how to make those decisions the right way. Overall, Ken's book is filled with a lot of terrific and useful information, with great lists and bullet points to make it easy to follow and understand, with some great stories as well (relevant ones). It's helping me fix some of my thinking, is filling in a lot of holes for other issues, and will now make me much more prepared for my own launch and getting my message out there! So thanks, Ken.

A Summary of Online Marketing Tactics,

This review is from: Impact: How to Get Noticed, Motivate Millions, and Make a Difference in a Noisy World (Hardcover)
The promise of this book was to help anyone to make an impact in an already crowded marketplace. The author is sincere and writes in a warm and friendly manner. The direction of the book is almost exclusively toward online marketing.
Having studied online marketing through email subscriptions and paid mentoring, I found little in this book that I was not already familiar with. There is a lot of attention paid to joint venture partnering, but it seems geared toward those who are already fairly successful marketers. Making the leap from newcomer to one who might seriously be considered by these top-level marketers is one that I thought should have been given more attention, given the purpose of the book. Many names were mentioned of people the author has partnered with that I do not believe would be accessible to most marketers. I liked his advice to keep marketing concepts simple, but again, that is not new. The book contains some good inspriational stories and snapshots, and I found these to be the most interesting parts of the book. This may be a good book for the newcomer to online marketing techniques in becoming more informed, but the newcomer will be left with many unanswered questions as to the implementation of its ideas.

What Kind of Book Am I?,
By
This review is from: Impact: How to Get Noticed, Motivate Millions, and Make a Difference in a Noisy World (Hardcover)
Although this book has a lot of helpful and interesting information, it suffers from a key problem - it doesn't know what kind of book it is. By that I mean that author Ken McArthur seems as if he was at times penning a self-help book, then a very technical how-to book, or was it a how to make a lot of money book, or maybe it was a book warning about the perils of selling an online product, or maybe it was about the difficulties of making a lot of money - wait no, it's an inspirational/motivational book. All these areas are covered to some extent, and give the book a kind of haphazard feel. When you get to an interesting section, it's like driving on an otherwise mediocre scenic tour and suddenly coming upon a really beautiful site.
The book is also at times a frustrating read because McArthur covers important topics on a general level, leaving the reader thirsting for a very specific example. Take online products. Please provide a specific, detailed example. He gets specific at the end when he talks about his online product, but even there it not detailed enough. Maybe this book was really just promotional material to go to his website and buy his product. Part of me wants to give it a 4, but I think a 3 is more justified because in the end I am left with the feeling that there surely are other authors with more focused things to say. One last thing - a pet peeve. I really don't like when authors quote themselves in a book. What's up with placing your own quotes in shaded boxes? If something is really quotable, it should be done by readers and not by the authors.

Impact: How to get noticed, Motivate Millions, and make a difference in a noisy world,
This review is from: Impact: How to Get Noticed, Motivate Millions, and Make a Difference in a Noisy World (Hardcover)
Stephen Covey meets Walt Disney. That's how I'd describe the world imagined and being worked towards in this super new book by Ken McArthur. I hadn't heard of Ken until about a week ago, and I bought the book based on what I've read about him on the web. I am not just satisfied, I'm deeply impressed. This book is as practical as 'The 7 Habits' and as forward looking as 'It's a small world'. I've been in business for 24 years and rate this book as 'Top Shelf, keep it nearby'.

This work is significant because it addresses an important subject that we all participate in, impact. You can make massive impact. It does involve work. We all have impact with those we are closest too...but we can also move forward to massive impact. Ironically he entitles "Chapter 13" "You can't make a difference if you can't pay the bills" The author lets you the the time and money it will take to achieve meaningful impact.
The author goes into detail about the systems you will need to make massive impact, but keeps you on track on page 128 with: solve a real problem, keep the solution simple, and make it easy. His zingwacker idea is most extraordinary. This alone makes the book a must purchase. Buy this book if you want to impact the world with effective change.

I Was Too Busy To Read It-But Couldn't Put It Down!,
By
This review is from: Impact: How to Get Noticed, Motivate Millions, and Make a Difference in a Noisy World (Hardcover)
I'm a teacher, software creator, and internet marketing coach. When I got this book from a seminar recently, I thought it would be a nice addition to my library that I would read "some" day when I wasn't so busy.
One day my internet connection went on the blink. I was annoyed, but decided to spend my time productively instead of whining. I chose to read Ken's book, Impact. After all, he had signed it for me at the Masters Seminar in Chicago. The book captivated me as did the author. A few pages into the book, I saw my instant messenger pop back up. I had tons of action steps written for the day, yet to be done, but I was not about to put the book down. I was like a sponge soaking up life for myself and my business. I could relate so well to everything he was saying. He gives solid, usable content, not just concepts or fluff. It is clear that he is an expert marketer because he understands every aspect of marketing-but he especially gets how valuable relationships are to building a true foundation of a successful business. It is officially on my "must read" list for my internet marketing students. The book covers crucial information on publicity, psychology, leveraging, launch strategies, building revenue, outsourcing, automating, and much more that every serious marketer should know. The resources inside the book are amazing, but he goes a step further and adds bonus links to resources online for those who want more. It doesn't matter if you are a new affiliate marketer or own a thriving business-you'll enjoy and benefit from reading this book. You'll thank me later if you just click the order button now. Small Book. Big Impact.,

You've heard the saying, "Small hinges swing big doors." That's what this book is about -- how small actions on our part can (and do) have big impact on the world (and the people) around us.
Illustrated with examples from his own experience as well as those of others (some famous, some not) Ken makes the point that we all do have impact. The question he leaves us with: will we choose what that impact looks like, and will we choose to amplify it to the maximum possible level? But he doesn't leave us with "only" inspirational stories - this book is also filled with practical "how to" advice. Highly recommended.
