I looked at this and the Westcott Illuminator Reflector Arm, and settled on this, primarily because of the grip clamps. While the Westcott shouldn't have the narrow grip issues that some reflector grips do (there are reports about numerous reflector grips that cannot hold the reflectors because the reflector is too wide for it), I wanted to try out this Impact arm because it struck me the clamps can be used for a lot more than just holding reflectors. My hope was that I would be able to use it to hold flags, diffusers, etc.

I'm happy to say it does that very well. It also came with something I did not see when I was looking at the item details: a removable counter weight on the back of the arm, which works reasonably well for balancing most of the arm weight itself, particularly when the arm is fully extended. This means less strain on the joints/locks when you have something attached to the other end of the arm, and better balance of the light stand. If attaching a light reflector indoors I don't see needing to add additional weight. If you put heavier items on the arm you might need to sandbag your light stand, or the back of the arm, to provide additional counter balance. I wouldn't load it too much, there are plastic pieces here, but for flags, scrims, reflectors, etc. it should be fine.

The arm extends quite far out, no problem holding a large 60" reflector as stated. The position and rotation of the clamps can be changed very easily, making the clamp distances customizable. The clamps themselves are rubber coated, so there won't be any damage to fabric, etc. The grip of the clamps is firm.

I have not used it outside. I would say though, that provided you sandbag the lightstand adequately, this could probably be used in light wind.

Construction is quite sturdy. I expect this to last me quite some time.

This it definitely the reflector holder to get!
Especially if you use 5 in 1 reflectors, foam boards and even fabric.
unlike other reflector holders that have tiny clamps that can barely hold only certain reflectors, this one comes with nice size rubberized clamps that can easily hold onto anything.
It seems pretty well built and even has a small counterweight.
(and counter to a previous review, there's no need for an instruction manual - merely extend the telescoping arm to the size of your reflector and attach the reflector with the clamps, easy as that)

Excellent ... holds the 4x6 and smaller reflectors great ... also works equally well with foam core and even held props with it ...

I was pleasantly surprised at the sturdiness of this reflector holder. I had been seeking one for a while, did not want to spend a fortune, did not want to get a cheap one either. The clamps are metal, sturdy, will not drop what you put in their, from small 22" discs up to 5 x 7 collapsible background. Just ordered another on and yes, I would recommend this to a friend

After struggling with the impossible task of holding a camera and a reflector at the same time, I finally gave in to the urge to purchase one of these.(Trying to use the spouse or other friends as reflector holders doesn't work that well either).

The holder would fit on to any standard light stand and the grip or mount is secure. Some of the positive qualities are summarized below:
a) Finish quality: Excellent, does not look like a cheap product, looks very professional.
b) Weight balance: A balance head on the other side of the holder ensures that the light stand wouldn't tip over by the weight of the reflector (Definitely useful)
c) Adjustable clamp distance: The holder has a telescopic movement, so the gap between the clips can be increased or decreased depending on the size of the reflector.
d) Nice clamps: 2 clamps present to hold the reflector. They shut tightly so even a thin material can be held between them.

Even though everything is nice about this product, I would still give it 4 stars and not 5. The gripe I have about this is that it uses gravity to keep the reflector in place. In essence the reflector hangs from the 2 clips at the top of the bar. That makes it prone to moving(if there is wind) and worse still, there is no way to hold the reflector in an inclined position.
I would really love to have a hold which has a full frame around the reflector which can be used to hold it at an inclined position; It's really tough to get the light to hit the subject correctly unless the reflector is inclined.

So as I said, this isn't a replacement for an assistant. (I guess I'm back to teaching my wife how to hold it properly) :-)
