A good pump for the backyard pond,

This is a good pump for the personal small-sized backyard pond. We purchased it, installed it, and haven't had any problems with it yet. Much better price than what we found at stores for the quality.

Not really useful in goldfish ponds,

I purchased this pump along with a bio-filter (the pump is to go into the water, the bio-filter sits on dry land next to the pond; the pump feeds water up to the bio-filter, which filters the water and sends it back into the pond). Indeed, the two are often offered together as a packaged deal.
The problem: within hours the pump was clogged. It has a very small filter, and it simply got clogged up with junk. What is the point of a submersible pump if it simply clogs up so quickly? I realize that I had not thought this through before I purchased. I give it two stars since it actually did 'work' and pump water for a while. Also, it is suppose to work on dry land (you would remove the filter, and make sure the pump is at least 6 inches below the water level, which is impossible for my situation). If your purpose is a pump/filter to keep your outdoor goldfish pond clean, then go for the submersible filter that you attach to a submersible pump; the pump will pull the water through the attached filter and then up and out (fountain, etc).
