Had to burn my old copy because we got caught behind enemy lines by some Orks with a Titan or something. Been lying low from the Commissar after we escaped the greenskins' clutches. Shipped quickly despite being stationed on a far away hiveworld and this is even the newest version! Nothing like the outdated copy I got when I first enlisted. No more worrying from me! Thanks Amazon!

This slim hardback is just under two hundred pages in length. This is the handbook which, by Imperial law, must be carried on each Infantryman's person at all times. Why? Because failure to produce this document at a superior officer's request at ANY TIME carries the penalty of death. This handbook must not fall into enemy hands. Failure to ensure its safekeeping carries the penalty of death. (By order of the Departmento Munitorum.)

***** FIVE STARS! This handbook is perfect for those who take the W40K Universe seriously. The only part of this handbook that does not contain anything at all to do with life in W40K is contained within one box, on page two, where you will find the names of the author (Graham McNeill), illustrators (Alex Boyd, Wayne England, Neil Hodgson, Kari Kopinski, and Tiernen Trevallion), and all the other legal to-do that today's laws demand.

The handbook begins with the Preface, written by Seward Rosencranz, Chancellor of the Estate Imperium. Next is the "Logistical Officer's Chain of Command". From this point, the handbook can be broken down into three sections. Section One is the largest. It is the "Imperial Munitorum Manual". This section ends with request forms for any needed supplies, equipment, ammunition, and/or kits. Section Two is "The Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer". At the beginning of this section is a Death Notice form. On the soldier's demise the death notice is to be filled in and signed by a company commander or attached commissar ONLY. If both are unavailable, information is supplied as to where one may seek the correct procedures. Section Three is "The Benedictions of the Emperor, Inspiration Source and Uplifting Creeds for all Infantrymen". Each of these pages is pink, so they stand out.

This book is the "omnibus" edition of "The Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer" and "The Imperial Munitorum Manual." This is a MUST OWN book for anyone who enjoys the lore of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, anyone who plays the Warhammer 40,000 table top game, and anyone who plays the Dark Heresy / Only War Roleplaying games.

Inside you will find all of the rules and regulations it takes to be one of humanities last line of defense against those that wish to destroy us. It lists weapons, gear, tactics, chain of command, and a concise section detailing the Xenos Scum.

The only reason I give it a 4 is this book combines the ORIGINAL "Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer" and not the more recent and updated version "Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer, Damocles Gulf Edition." As such, it is missing everything about the Tau and the awards given on that campaign. I don't understand why they would exclude that section in this omnibus style reprinting.

I'm a Tau, and let me say this book is hilarious! I picked it up after a Guardsman left his behind, and I almost pity him after I read what you Gue'la do to those who lose their Handbook. Almost. But seriously, this book is a comedy gold mine. Litany of Stealth? Litany of Reloading? Do you Gue'la really believe the stuff in here? And all these long processes just to get ammo? Whatever happened to asking nicely? Hey, whatever helps you sleep at night, Gue'la.

The only disappointing thing is that I heard there was a newer edition of your primer, a 'Damocles Gulf,' and this one doesn't have anything about that. Too bad, I could have used a laugh about what you thought of us. Only real downside to this handbook, I'd say. Totally gonna share it with the rest of my Cadre though, we could do with a bit of humor in all this grim darkness.

Love and kisses, gue'la!

I am someone who plays the video games of the 40K series, and have no experience with the tabletop figurine version or the other books that are actual literature based on the series.

That being said, I enjoyed this book a great deal even though I have limited experience with the source material.

This book is written with the perspective that those who are reading are guardsmen themselves and presents itself like a military handbook you'd get before bootcamp. It discusses topics such as the typical equipment issued to guardsmen, the history of the Adeptus Munitorum, what actions are punishable by death, and other interesting bits of knowledge like the proper prayers one gives to the emperor right before battle.

The whole book is dry, just like a real military handbook. But it is filled with deadpan humor usually based around how expendable an individual guardsmans life is in the eyes of the Imperium, or how bureaucratically insane the whole guardsmen's system is.

It's a fun book. I advise anyone who enjoys the Warhammer 40K series to give it a read, but know that it never breaks tone and you may get bored if the straight faced military theme isn't your favorite.
