This is not your father's AT-AT...,

I just bought this at TRU this afternoon. It is truly huge with great play value. While the old style AT-AT was prone to have pieces bust off of it, this one is made to "break-away" at the guns so you can store it or cart it around safely. There are dozens of electronic sounds and chatter and space enough for all the snowtroopers you can fit. The legs move well - I stood this up on a lumpy bed with the legs posed like a trotting horse (one side together, the other side apart) and it still stood up. The only things I would have done differently would be a)include weights in the feet (though there is plenty of space to add your own) to anchor it more securely, and b)make it larger! I paid $159.99 for the new Millenium Falcon and this was only $99.99. I would have paid another $60.00 if they could have made it bigger! Ah, well - it's probably the best value for it's class and size of toy in several years. Your kids will go bonkers - Hell, I'M going bonkers and I wish I was seven again so I could really sink deep and play instead of just setting it up. Mine is crushing the new 2010 snowspeeder as Luke leaves Dack's lifeless plastic corpse to the crushing tread of the Imperial AT-AT. The 2009 removable helmet AT-AT drivers are commanded by the new 2010 TVC Commander. The new TVC Hoth Han Solo (great figure!) looks on helplessly with his repair tools from the crippled Falcon. Too cool... Where's my nephew so I have a good excuse? Old age sucks, but one can afford more. "He who dies with the most toys wins!" :D

This is an awesome Star Wars Vehicle! The AT-AT is my favorite Empire vehicle from any of the Star Wars movies and I could not wait for this one! Hasbro did NOT disappoint on this one!! This vehicle goes in line with the other larger Star Wars vehicles such as the Millennium Falcon, the AT-TE and the Clone Turbo Tank! It is a must have for any kid OR collector. The retail price was only $99.99, which was super surprising for a toy with this many features and this size. I may have been a lucky one though to get it for $99.99 from Amazon. It seems to have gone up in price as of now. Hopefully, it will change. Here are the Pros: - Its BIG: It measures over 2 feet tall and over 2 feet long! Not exactly to scale with figures, but close enough. This one looks much more accurate to the movie than the older mold from the early 90's and 00's (plus it is way bigger) Very nice detail on the entire vehicle. - There is a TON of space inside for putting figures in (about 6 in the cockpit and 10-12 in the body). Also, one AT-AT driver is included. - Includes Speeder bike that can be stored and launched from the rear of the vehicle. (you can fit 2 speeder bikes side by side in the back) - A retractable rope hook for hanging Luke Skywalker (sold separately) - Real movie sounds and phrases from the Empire Strikes Back (over 10 different phrases and 8 different vehicle sounds) - Shooting missiles from the cheek guns of the head. - Main body area can open from BOTH sides to reveal your snow troopers. - Fully articulated legs at the hip and knee joints. Articulated head with handle that can move head up, down, side to side. (Very Cool) - VERY SOLID! This vehicle is great for playing with. It should not fall apart very easily, so it is a great addition to all kids who love Star Wars! AND it is pretty simple to put together out of the box and actually pretty fun. - Very minor sticker application (I really hate applying stickers) Here are the Cons: (which are not really cons because this vehicle is so awesome!) - The legs are a little hard to move. You have to use a little force to get them to move and sometimes it is hard to get them in the positions you want them in. - Wish they included more figures with such a large vehicle. That is about it! I highly recommend this for anyone who is a fan of Star Wars! You will NOT be disappointed. It is a lot of fun and just a great center piece for your Star Wars Collection!! Thank you Hasbro for releasing such an awesome representation of the AT-AT!!

This is a very impressive, well-detailed toy that's bound to be a hit for Star Wars fans. Working hatches, actual rappelling ropes, lights, sounds, speeder bike with ejecting platform, an AT-AT driver, detailed interior with multiple platforms and levels, and an obvious overall attention to detail are some of the key points about this AT-AT. This attention to detail gives a beautiful showcase quality to the toy. The included speeder bike is a nice extra, but seems like an afterthought because it's a bit flimsy compared to the quality of the AT-AT. The included AT-AT driver is not as articulated compared to other 3.75" Star Wars figures, which makes me wonder why Hasbro didn't include a figure that is fully articulated. The dual working mini rappelling cranes and working hatches offer dexterity practice for little kids' hands. While the AT-AT wasn't made as an educational toy, it does provide imaginative play: sort of like playing dollhouse, except with Snowtroopers in a Rebel-crushing all terrain vehicle. This is a perfect match with the Attack on Hoth and Defense of Hoth playsets. I purchased this toy for my 5-year old son, and if he was reviewing it, he'd probably give it 5 (or even 10) stars. However, as a parent, I have to deduct a star for one glaring downside: this huge toy cannot be disassembled for storage. Once the legs and head are attached, they are stuck for good. Nothing less than some Jedi telekinesis will disengage these parts. It would be perfect if Hasbro had created a release mechanism for the legs so this toy could be stored. (For example, the leg section of the AT-ST in the Attack on Hoth playset is dettachable.) For parents living in apartments, or those with storage issues, this is a problem. Finding a method to store this behemoth has been a real conundrum: it's literally the size of a medium dog. It's like owning an immobile pet that doesn't fetch or play dead. We currently store it standing up in a corner on its hind legs until we figure out more efficient storage. Perhaps an AT-AT end-table?

Any aspiring Emperor (or even an apprentice) must learn the value of mechanized infantry support vehicles. While crushing the life from your foes using only the raw power of the dark side of the force is immensely rewarding, not even the darkest of the dark can summon enough power to throttle whole squadrons of cowardly rebels at once. Lurking in hardened underground lairs, frequently on inhospitable planets, these sort of vermin must be answered with an iron fist--but in the form of the formidable Imperial AT-AT. Spewing hot death from it's twin, side mounted blaster cannons, the AT-AT has the firepower, maneuverability and versatility to bring destruction to all who resist your might.FUN: 5 Stars Nothing brings more satisfaction (the closest thing to fun that an Imperial commanding officer feels) than watching properly equipped mechanized death machines mow down the enemies of the Empire. The AT-AT is just such a machine. It is rumored to have caused even Lord Vader himself to crack a smile. EDUCATIONAL VALUE: 5 Stars There is no greater privileged in life than passing on valuable life lessons to the younger generations. How to successfully crush a well hidden rebel base using brilliant tactics and war machines is necessary for raising up the next generation of ruthless, committed decision makers that the Empire will need to expand through the known universe. DURABILITY: 5 Stars Aside from a tow-cable weakness exploited by cowardly rebel pilots unable and unwilling to fight toe-to-toe with the mighty AT-AT, the durability of the AT-AT is unsurpassed. Capable of crushing enemies with its giant feet or burning them to cinders with its cannons, the AT-AT is a fighting machine without rival. Thick plating and armored joints ensures that even steady enemy fire will not bring it to it's knees. Just keep an eye out for those insect like Snowspeeders and their pathetic tow cables. The Emperor now suggests that all AT-ATs be accompanied by ground based anti-aircraft infantry units to prevent needless tow-cable related mishaps. OVERALL: 5 Stars Peerless as suppressing and eliminating cowardly rebels, the Empire salutes the AT-AT as it's assault and transport vehicle of choice. Aspiring dark lords, grand admirals, and apprentices would do well to arm themselves with as many as their slave planets, plunder, and tribute payments can support. Bend the will of all those who resist you. Destroy and humiliate your enemies. Let the AT-AT demonstrate to the universe that you will not be denied.

I got this for my two sons, ages 8 and 9. They both love Star Wars and they find it hard to believe it has been around for "SOOO long" that Daddy even knows and appreciates the toys. I have to say we love this Toy. It is over 2 feet tall - massive, and man we have had so many Star Wars battles with this monster at the center of it all. Definitely invest the time to put the batteries in, because the sound effects, motorized pulleys and action firing guns take the toy to a whole new level.I know the price seems steep, but the amount of play we get out of it has been worth every dollar. Amazon is definitely the best place to purchase it as well. We first saw this at Target and Toys R US, but opted to get it from Amazon for $20 bucks cheaper and free UPS shipping.

If you're a Star Wars fan, don't skip this one; you'll be kicking yourself later when it goes out of production. As nice as it looks in the photos, not a single picture I've seen so far really does this AT-AT justice. It really is the AT-AT that we always wanted, but Kenner/Hasbro never quite delivered. I've resisted buying new Star Wars toys for some time now to cut down on clutter in my home office, but this is my first exception in several years. Totally worth the asking price, no regrets.

We bought this for my son recently, and the whole family is amazed by the quality of the product, the massive size of the toy, and the variety of lights and sounds it makes. We have found absolutely no reason not to recommend this toy to others who love Star Wars and are looking for a very special toy to celebrate a birthday, Christmas, etc... or in our case a specific academic achievement. Great price, great toy, quick shipping. I'd give the toy 10 stars if I could based upon my son's initial reaction to it alone!

Oh man, when that box arrived, we thought, wow, is that big. After an easy assembly, it was even bigger. True to life details, great color, it can really take a beatin`. I never thought a couple of bucks and a little of my time could put such a smile on my boys face. I would highly recommend this toy to all Star wars fans around the world.

There's really nothing more to be said about this monster that hasn't been said. It's got everything, and the size can't be truly appreciated until you see one in person. They're the size of a coffee table.

This review is not meant to compete with the far more detailed reviews already given, nor to repeat what has been said. This is simply another purchaser's testimony to being very satisfied with the purchase. When one remembers that the older POTF2 version retailed at $79.99 (or $89.99 at TRU -- but I guess it requires more money to feed those giraffes), this new model is a remarkable value. The mold is superior to the first in every way, in regard to size, sure, but also to detail and to the increased possibilities for creative play around and within this vehicle/playset. OK, it's not "educational" in the least, but it does give opportunity for creativity in imagining scenarios and developing plots. One small oversight: it would have been really helpful if Hasbro had measured their General Veers and older AT-AT Commander figures before designing the cockpit to be 3mm too short for them to clear the ceiling. The roof only closes over the new AT-AT Commander (2010), which appeared on the racks at the same time. (Then again, perhaps they DID measure these.... Hmmm....) The biggest drawback is that it came out 10 years too late. We already have three of the earlier, smaller version. These now just hang their heads and mope around, feeling inadequate. They won't even join in re-enactments of the battle of Hoth or anything anymore. :) Now if Hasbro might just give this kind of attention to a new, improved Imperial Shuttle! |
