4.0 out of 5 stars The last of the Australian novel series, June 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Imperialists (The Australians, Vol. 12) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Imperialists is the 12th and last of the Australian novels by a woman author writing, here, as William Stuart Long. Unlike many historical novels, the series is deeply researched and reflects actual Australian historical events. The Imperialists addresses the diverse fortunes of the descendants of earlier Australian immigrants who were featured in preceding novels. Australia has gained a sense of self and a measure of autonomy. The time is one of technological change with steam power altering naval ships and automobiles gaining strength as personal transportation for the wealthy. The novel is darker in tone than preceding books and features a badly damaged marriage with no assurance of reconciliation. The book left me with a feeling that another novel had been foreseen, but the author died before this book's publication date. This is the least-often seen novel in the series, but merits reading for fans, of which I am one, of her writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love the series, September 30, 2005
This review is from: The Imperialists (The Australians, Vol. 12) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read volumes 1-12 and am so pleased with all the volumes which are full of adventures and lives of the related characters which the author has skillfully created. I also love the stories being woven around history. I love the family tree diagrams. I am so pleased that I am looking for other volumes after 12 if there any written. I feel like I must have more. Please contact me if the author has created other volumes in this series.

Thank you,

James E. Meyers
