the transient limn,
By DarkyGirl (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Impermanence (Audio CD)
Impermanence tickles the mind with its avant vocals and instruments - avant in their simple beauty, eloquent in peaceful (Maybe 2, Rocking, Mieke's Melody #5) and playful (Particular Dance), even silly (Skeleton Lines) aspects - they open the mind's channels of thought. As Meredith Monk and the exemplary Vocal Ensemble are wont to do. I can hear the vibrant 'presence' of the performers in the vocals. I hear the meditative storytelling unity of the ensemble, utilizing song/breath/sound/word/cadence/rhythm/reed/percussion/harmony/dissonance/polyrhythm. I hear it, and it moves with me across space/time, moving as if from death-and-separation to an embrace of the transient nature of life itself. I cannot decide of all her albums I own which is my favorite, though I think Mercy and Impermanence I have listened to most. Nominated for a Grammy in Best Small Ensemble Performance 2008, Impermanence has staying power. Thank you Meredith and thank you to every voice and musician who contributed to this album.

No words can descrime Monk's work. I've seen the live performance and this is a grat memorie of the emotions and energy she and the Ensembre offer so kindfully to the audience. As a record, is a jewel on it's own.

A gentle meditation,
This review is from: Impermanence (Audio CD)
This is a gentle avant guard compilation that all can enjoy. Meredith Monk, with her friends, reminds us that sound and song are important in our life; that we are all capable of expressing our hearts, our selves through music.
