A wonderful document of a brilliant comic...,

It's tough to top Paul F. Tompkins. Dave Foley once told me that Tompkins is the funniest man in the world, and I'd hate to disagree on that point. If you can't find the CD here, check out aspecialthing dot com, the home of the label it's on.

Insanely Good,
This review is from: Impersonal [Explicit] (MP3 Download)
This is by far the most re-listenable comedy album I have ever heard. Not only is it hysterically funny, it's actually fun to listen to. Some comics' albums, although very funny, are sometimes hard to listen to more than a couple of times because of excessive anger, hostility, and generally vitriolic performances. They are hilarious, but aren't all that enjoyable. Tomkins is a riot without spilling bile on everything he sees, and he really seems to like what he's doing.
Also, one interesting aspect of this album was that I could have my mother and younger relatives listen to it, because it's pretty much entirely "clean." I have no idea why it's labeled "explicit." Explicit it ain't. Now, I am not easily offended, and I normally don't care if comedy is clean or not, but it's exciting to come across great stand-up that's teriffic because the comic is so spot-on about what is truly funny, and has no need to scream, swear, or obsess about his d*** to enhance the goods.

Everyone should own this CD.,

So here I am, sitting at work listening to this album for (probably) the 50th time. Potato Famine comes on, and I actually spit coffee all over my keyboard. How can he be that funny, EVERY TIME YOU LISTEN TO HIM? Inconceivable.

I listen to A LOT of comics and thus I can safely say that this is one excellent, hilarious comedy album that bears repeated listening. Highly enjoyable, fun and great value for money. Recommended.
Oh, and by the way Paul doesn't use much profanity in his act, so just ignore the "explicit warning" - the whole family can enjoy this, similar to Brian Regan style comedy.

One of the best comedy albums ever,

This is purely and simply one of the best comedy albums ever made. And although it may say, "Explicit", it really isn't. It's very clean, and about a wide variety of topics that are very relatable. Some of these tracks are some of the best tracks you'll ever find on an album. Namely, "Tomboy", "Daylight Savings Time", "Alternative Pets", "Potato Famine" and "Letters to Magazine" are good enough that if a comedy album only had two tracks as good as those it'd be a good album. And then there's "Peanut Brittle", a track which you can listen to 50 times and still love. It's the best track on the album, and will go down as a classic bit from Mr. Paul F Thompkins.
This album is very good for relistening to, I listened to it 10 times in the first week I had it. Paul F Thompkins manages to make hilarity out of any topic, and do so thoughtfully and precisely. You'll read a lot of good reviews for good albums out there, but I'm telling you, if you're on a tight budget, pick up "Impersonal", you'll love it.

I just had to say that. Paul should do a show here in his hometown though! (are you listening, Paul?)
I think this album is great, but I bought it from aspecialthing.com, which is the record label and I figured Paul would get a bigger share of the money that way. You're welcome, Paul. If you watch one of these "Comedy Central Presents" shows you can see Paul do a lot of this material and it's funny to see how the bits have improved by the time he recorded the album. He's gotten the whole "comedy act" thing honed to a sharp comedy pointy thing. You will laugh a lot. Anyway, all the blood is leaving my brain now, so...

Laughing to tears,

While it was an odd choice to fade in and out on different bits, instead of including a full performance, everything on this album is hilarious. The delivery of Paul F. Tompkins is spot on and I laughed so hard I cried on several occasions.
