Biography

On their ninth studio album, Strange Cousins from the West, the Maryland hard rockers continue to grow musically. Due out July 7th 2009, Strange Cousins sees the innovative quartet stirring up a sonic crock-pot of chugging blues riffs, punk rock grit, bombastic funk beats and raw, infectious vocals. Guitarist Tim Sult rips through epic grooves on cuts like "Motherless Child," while bassist Dan… Read more in Amazon's Clutch Store

5.0 out of 5 stars CLUTCH ROCKS, June 25, 2001
This review is from: Impetus (Audio CD)
Clutch is the quintessential hardcore band. NOBODY makes music like this anymore, at least nothing you would ever hear on the radio or, god forbid, MTV. Limp Bizkit, Korn, Godsmack, none of them can hold a candle to Clutch-- old Clutch at least, and this is as old as it gets for anyone who wasn't on the early 90's D.C. hardcore scene when they came out. Their newer stuff starts to thin out on the intensity, but this EP is as good as Clutch ever were. If you are extremely lucky, you will have an old fan around to dub the "Pitchfork" 7" demo which contains Clutch's first recordings. Anyway, BUY THIS CD. You will not regret. Great riffs, great lyrics, REAL LOUD, and a great insight into the hardcore roots of this great band. The last three songs are the older Earache EP "Passive Restraints," and the first two are from an Earache compilation disc from Europe called "Naive," including "Piledriver," possibly the greatest Clutch song ever. 5.0 out of 5 stars In the beginning ..., March 22, 2001

If you like "nu-metal," well, a.) You need help, but also b.) All of those bands you like owe a debt of gratitude to Clutch. Along with Helmet and Quicksand, Clutch took hardcore music to a new plateau with its first 3 releases. This is a collection of music that would be considered #2; it's from 1992 but if it were released today it would likely go platinum. The riffs are hard, the bass is chunky, the vocals are barky and deep. It's a terrific representative of the purer side of hardcore music.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not heard much..., August 8, 1998

Earache records re-released this EP with a couple of bonus tracks that are a real treat to the insane Clutch fan. One, older, unreleased song plus a demo cut from the early days of Clutch really let you in on the roots. Way back when, Neil Fallon's voice needed heavy processing to come across as punk and the riffs were simpler and heavier... Deep, excellent lyrics. I'm only giving this one 3 stars because it's basically a marketing ploy. The original (Passive Restrains) would definetly get 5 stars from me. Still, a real must for HUGE fans. Bring the heaviness home! P.S. If you're not convinced, fish out a copy of Passive Restraints at your local music store and read the lyrics. (All three songs are printed on the back.)
