Book Description

Neurosurgeon Julia Nolan places cortical implants into the brains of field operatives to record data from their auditory and visual cortices. One of her subjects, an operative named Ian Westhelle, suffers a psychotic break and kills his handler before he can be recovered.

Julia tracks Ian to an asylum where the CIA warehouses insane former soldiers, scientists, and others with security risks too great for conventional psychiatric wards. Agents from the national intelligence directorate discover her snooping and target her for elimination.

A collaboration between international bestselling authors Michael Wallace and Jeffrey Anderson, Implant is a heart-pounding thriller that will keep readers guessing until the final, chilling conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful and gritty March 7, 2011

I wasn't very far into Implant when I started telling friends and family about what a phenomenal writer Michael Wallace is. I likened him to several of the top ten suspense writers, on bestseller lists, that I've ever read. He takes the readers on a journey to faraway places, root for patients in a mental institution, want to physically maim some bad guys, etc. This is a must read for readers who enjoy a thrilling ride.

3.0 out of 5 stars Readable, but not memorable April 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The story is well plotted and made a tad more interesting by adding an informed South African backdrop. Although all the right ingredients have been mixed into the story - well described science; love interest; war and fighting; politics; CIA; international economy ... etc. - It seems like the story tries to do it all, with the inevitable result that the plot and characters appear somewhat washed out. Enough of a page turner that I kept reading, but far from really exciting or memorable. Some parts reminded me of "The Terminal Man".

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling love story March 11, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Michael has done it again.

I found this story very interesting and had to wonder if things like this really do go on. Who knows?

You have a bond between friends and the sorrow of the loss when one is killed in the line of duty. You have the suspense of medical science and humans. You've got a love story.

I found it very hard to put this book down as I do all of Michael Wallaces books. I think I finished it in two nights just so I could get on to his next one.

Thanks Mike for making my days brighter with your twist in stories. Not just the same old thing in your books. Always something suspenseful to look forward to.
