This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A277193. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: This thesis details the engineering, design and implementation of a real-time, distributed, application emulator system (AE system). The project had two main goals for the tool: emulation of real-time distributed systems, and as a programmable resource consumer. The AE system is currently being used in the HiPer-D test bed to activate a resource leveling tool that monitors several software components for real-time response. The AE system is highly flexible and can be used in the context of a variety of network topologies and system loading options. The results presented show that the AE system can also emulate distributed systems.
