2.0 out of 5 stars Outrageously priced
The book is pretty superficial for the price of $150. Good organization but not as much depth as I expected. Not nearly enough depth to help someone implement 2.0 - really more of an overview of some of the key areas but detail and how-to is very shallow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive treatment with great data, April 21, 2009
This review is from: Implementing Enterprise 2.0: A Practical Guide To Creating Business Value Inside Organizations With Web Technologies (Paperback)
This is a book not for the faint-hearted. Not because it's dense - it's not and it is in fact an extremely well laid out and written book.

It's challenging from the viewpoint of providing well-researched examples of where business should actually be in regard to Web 2.0 technologies, and most businesses will be found wanting in that respect at present. The key value in this book is that it shows business how to become Enterprise 2.0 savvy and actually deliver superior customer service and internal productivity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Using the Value Strategy for Implementing Enterprise 2.0, October 22, 2009

Ross Dawson does an amazing job of sharing the Value Strategy for implementing Enterprise 2.0.

I am a professional Enterprise 2.0 developer and fixing poor implementations of Enterprise 2.0 has paid me well over the years. Some organizations have invested countless hours and thousands upon thousands of dollars trying to implement E 2.0 and knowledge management solutions. Most of these solutions fail, mostly because they lack a strong implementation strategy and the adoption rate dies.

I believe most people would like more time and reduced workloads. I also believe most organizations would like higher productivity and profits. Everyone wins when Enterprise 2.0 solutions are implemented with a winning strategy. Ross carefully explains all the necessary steps for a successful Enterprise 2.0 solution.

* Ross explains the Business Value of Social Media tools like Blogs, Wikis, Micro blogs (internal Twitter), Social bookmarking, ...

* He includes many case studies (missing from most E 2.0 info) and details about Business Culture.

* The Golden Nuggets in the "Adoption" sections are priceless.

* The charts and graphs are absolutely beautiful.

* There is something here for everyone.

I have read some of these other reviews about how some of this information is available on the web. This is true, Ross Dawson is on Twitter and has a blog. He also offers a free "Social Media" chapter from his book on his web site.

This book can save you countless hours and dollars.

If you are looking for code or tools, then this book is not for you.

There is no shortage of literature on Web 2.0 and its business incarnation, Enterprise 2.0. Unfortunately most of this literature has been created by technical developers or enthusiastic early adopters. For the business leader, separating out the hype from the real business potential and risks can be problematic. Ross Dawson is an acknowledged thought leader in the area of Enterprise 2.0 and social media. He is a practiced communicator with executive management. In this practical guide he has effectively blended just enough technical content with a good dose of business pragmatism. The frameworks and checklists will provide an easy way forward to those business leaders looking to take advantage of the undoubted potential of Enterprise 2.0 technologies.

EXTREMELY high level stuff. Not worth your time or money... much of the information I saw freely posted all over the web. I suggest Enterprise 2.0 Implemetation by Newman and Thomas as a much better resource.
