Despite the documentation that comes with the device, it is not capable of reading DVD's - only cd's. If that's all you want, it's cheap enough. But given that most software comes on DVDs, I can't imagine much use for a cd only device.

I ordered this drive to use with a little HP notebook on a trip. It arrived promptly as expected, but it did not work at all. I have now tried it with both my netbook/notebook and my HP laptop, and neither PC recognizes it. The user manual is not very helpful and is so poorly translated to English that it is laughable. I will not ask the company to send me a replacement drive as another reviewer did, because the timing was critical to me and I can't wait for a replacement. Very disappointing, but maybe they sent me the one the other reviewer returned.

By the way, the symptoms were as follows: plugged in the USB cable and the power light came on the unit and the disk drive began to spin very noisily. The noise would have been bad even if it worked. But after spinning only a few seconds the light went out and nothing else happened even with the little USB 2.0 Driver mini disk in it, and neither of my pc's were ever able to find the drive at all.

Instruction manual was TOTALLY useless. When information was found on the screen regarding the product it was in Chinese characters. It barely works and is a piece of crap. I'm surprised that Amazon would sell this product.

Recieved this external disk drive as scheduled, however, it did not work. I contacted the company via e-mail, and they were very responsive, even though I am in Hawaii and they are on the East Coast. They sent me a new drive within a week no questions asked. The new one works just fine and I am very pleased. I will order from this comapny again, and have recommended them to friends.

Bought the unit for music cds and for loading software. Have only had a few months but it has done the job well and very satisfied with the price I paid..Will it last? Time will tell..

It was brand new for sure. and came with everything it stated, however it came with a driver that I cannot use and I did not see any where listed that it came with only one driver and that is was not for windows xp which is what I need. I contacted seller, and we will see if they send me a driver for xp otherwise all went smooth with ordering and condition of the item.
