Gr 7 Up-A well-written, well-documented biography for anyone who wants to know how a revolutionary develops. Goldman, herself oppressed and abused by a tyrannical father and seeing other Russian citizens cruelly and savagely treated by Russian tyrants, dedicated her life to fight openly for freedom of choice and justice. She immigrated to the United States in 1885 at 16 because her father wanted her to marry someone she despised. Upon seeing child labor, deplorable working conditions, and low pay, she railed into the Labor Movement making speeches and writing articles and winning herself the title of anarchist. The Gays do an admirable job of bringing Goldman to life and clearly show their subject's energy, substance, and determination. Black-and-white photos and reproductions appear throughout.-Marsha Whitney, South Meadow School, Peterboro, NH
