5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for all New Board Members, December 30, 1997
This review is from: The Five Most Important Questions You Will Ever Ask About Your Nonprofit Organization; Participant's Workbook [Drucker Foundation] (Paperback)
Having served on many boards, this no nonsense approach to the "real" work of a board is a must. Too much time and energy is wasted by boards, its members and staff doing non-strategic work. This assessment tool helps to clarify the "real" work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing 'unspiritual' about good business practices, March 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Five Most Important Questions You Will Ever Ask About Your Nonprofit Organization; Participant's Workbook [Drucker Foundation] (Paperback)
After 32 in nonprofit leadership in a religious context, if I've learned nothing else I've learned that sound business principles make for improved leadership at all levels, including the spiritual. Drucker's book, "The Five Most Important Questions..." draws the spiritual leader, and therefore, those who follow, into a self-examination that is wonderfully refreshing (if not painfully challenging).

Religious nonprofits tend to follow inspiring leadership (or as is commonly stated, a charismatic leader). This focus often leads to forgetfulness regarding some very consequential issues: What is our (real) mission? Who is our (real) customer? How do we measure (meaningful) results? Drucker's book - which is a quick read, but a long study - is a great tool to bring the focus of the leader and those they lead back to the essentials of why they are engaged in their ministry endeavors in the first place.

This review is from: The Five Most Important Questions You Will Ever Ask About Your Nonprofit Organization; Participant's Workbook [Drucker Foundation] (Paperback)
Our non-profit board will be working through these questions - we've already been reading it and considering the questions and the impact of potential answers on our directions. I am looking forward to measuring the impact a year or two down the road.
