Editorial Reviews

Product Description

The term Irish tenor may be fraught with as many wrong-headed, anachronistic characterizations as any phrase in music. But Ronan Tynan not only returns here to the PBS airwaves that helped spread his fame as a member of the Irish Tenors trio, but he overturns a few clichés while delivering a live concert (recorded at the Royal Dublin Society in June 2002) that encompasses everything from Broadway and pop chestnuts to Italian operatic repertoire. Tynan rewards Irish traditions old and new (a medley of Brian Kennedy's and U2's "Life, Love & Happiness"/"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For") and even makes left turns into folkie songstress territory (Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now," Sarah McLachlan's "Angel"). Backed by RTE Orchestra, the unlikely international star invests himself completely in all of it, his strong, crystalline voice playing off the traditions, while forging strong new bonds with the contemporary. --Jerry McCulley

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Vocal Talent Not To Be missed! December 12, 2002
Format:Audio CD
Ronan Tynan is a multi-talented individual who is a doctor,an athlete who has won gold medals in disabled competion and set world records and an author. His greatest gift however, is a voice that can stop one in their tracks. Known as one of the celebrated Irish tenors, this solo outing proves that he is the real deal. The sound quality of this live recording made in Dublin really is a dream come true for fans of this opera trained tenor. He sings Irish classics like "Danny Boy", to broadway "The Impossible Dream". He gives such contemporary tunes like "Both Sides Now" and the U2 "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" a whole new deep sound. The orchestra and the London Community Gospel Choir are flawless as is Ronan. Hey, the bottom line is I am a classic rock guy who appreciates good music from all walks of life, and Ronan Tynan makes great music and that is all that matters! Ronan Tynan is truly an artist with a vocal ability that should be heard by all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful! January 21, 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Having seen Ronan in person recently in the U.S., I was impressed first and foremost by his singing ability, and second by his stage presence and warmth. He is a special performer and human being. I am proud to be a Ronan Tynan fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Can't He Do ? November 21, 2002
Format:Audio CD
Ronan Tynan's second solo album is right on the mark - like his first. Both his first album and this one are collections of songs and ballads from every genre - broadway, opera, folk, spititual - and he nails each one ! I guess you could call him a
"master interpeter". Recorded before an audience at the Royal Dublin Society, his voice is clean and clear. Although this is not a DVD (yet), you can tell he carries it off without the peacock-strutting characteristic of other big stars who do a live, solo recording. I have no doubt we now have a new major
international figure before us. I truly can't think of his peer !

A Kid's Review

I think this cd was very good because my mummy listens to it all the time. I think ronan is brilliant singing all the songs. He even sings my favourite, Angel. I think the choir is brilliant and the boy singing on You raise me up is fantastic. It is a brilliant cd. BUY IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars impossibly beautiful December 1, 2002
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Ronan never disappoints and this new CD of his June concert is no exception. The songs include a wide range from traditional to Joni Mitchell, and his incredible voice does justice to every one. The CD as a whole is almost painfully beautiful. Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Simply Wonderful August 28, 2005
By Lindsay
Format:Audio CD
This CD is just as great as the more recent "Ronan" CD. I clicked on 3 stars in error. This is a 5++ star album! His voice is sheer perfection, and the songs are wonderful. I also highly recommend the DVD of "The Impossible Dream," even though I didn't care at all for the London Community Choir who sing four songs. Note: The American version of the DVD doesn't have the 25-minute "Dr. Courageous" extra on it that the Irish version does. I saw him in concert last month, and besides having a voice that soars to the rafters, he is warm, funny and endearing.

5.0 out of 5 stars oh molly oh December 14, 2002
Format:Audio CD
ronan tynan is a great role model for adults and children alike. he was born with a deformity and made a decision he would make something of himself, he had a goal and he surpassed it. no one puts as much of their heart into as he. he puts the audience into his songs, he makes us feel he is singing to each one of us individually. HE IS THE GREATEST IRISH TENOR I HAVE EVER HEARD, INCLUDING JOHN MC CORMAC the great irish tenor of the 30's
