5.0 out of 5 stars Hail, Vibrania!, December 4, 2002

I first saw SAHB in the late 70s on Don Kirschner's Rock Concert and was instantly hooked. Alex and his band fully achieved what others of the era (Alice Cooper, The Tubes, etc.) could only dream of: full-blown kick-a** rock opera with heaping spoonfuls of sly sarcastic wit that really worked.

Alex drew from a broad pallette of styles and tastes to meld into his own fantastic constructions. Pay attention to what you hear, because in about 30 seconds he will swerve into an entirely fresh take on the theme. He weaves through the music absurd yet unforgettable lyrics which build to a strangely delightful mythology. Witness: "Come up and let me analyse you / Said the monkey to the weasel / And I'll paint your picture on the wall / If you can buy the easel / And I told my story to the cannibal king /Said baby baby shake that thing."

After 20 years without these albums, I recently bought this CD set. I instantly remembered all of the lyrics, and the hooks are better than ever. These 2 albums represent SAHB's best work, with "Tomorrow Belongs To Me" taking the prize for being solid from beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vibrania rool!, March 4, 2003
Finally I found this '75 album on CD, it is classic.
Every song is great. Harvey, though not very famous in US
had a big underground following here. "Snake Bite" guitar by Zal Cleminson is venomously catchy. In surround sound on disc cranked up "Give my Compliments to the Chef" gives new meaning to a satisfactory meal. Everytime I play any songs from these albums people notice and ask who it is. I highly recommend you
"Send the roadies out for more..."

Having been a fan of SAHB since 1973 I would recommend this 2 CD issue.
Impossible Dream rocks and contains Classic tunes. Tomorrow Belongs to Me shows the band stretching with the same tongue in cheek style and musicianship that only SAHB can pull off.
I wish I had this material on CD years ago but I am so happy to have it now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tell Me a Story, July 17, 2009
This review is from: Impossible Dream / Tomorrow Belongs to Me (Audio CD)
The solid two albums on 2-CD sets chronicling eight of nine albums of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band - during Alex Harvey's lifetime - cranks into high gear with The Impossible Dream (1974) and Tomorrow Belongs to Me (1975).

Harvey is at his storytelling best as his alter-ego - the comic book hero Vambo - takes center stage in the 1974 album through Hot City Symphony Part I: Vambo, with Hot City Symphony Part II: Man in the Jar delivering a shocking conclusion to the proceedings. Sergeant Fury, Tomahawk Kid and Anthem are sonic gems, but Money Honey/The Impossible Dream is the real gem; Harvey again shows how he pulls and tugs from various genres of pop music to deliver his performance art.

One of two releases in 1975 (w/ Live), Tomorrow Belongs to Me is as close as the band got to deliver their critically-acclaimed live show in the confines of a studio. Guitarist Zal Cleminson pumps out a wicked groove on Snake Bite, while Harvey has an epic story to tell on The Tale of the Giant Stone Eater. Give My Compliments to the Chef, Action Strasse and Shark's Teeth finds Harvey propelling things to extraordinary heights.

"Give my regards to Sergeant Fury," indeed.
