Excellent addition to the De La Saga!,

I had no idea this was released until I trolled through Amazon as I often do, just CHECKING to see if any of my favourite artists have released anything I missed. I was curious purchasing this, not really knowing what to expect, but I'm very glad I have this. There's no De La Soul fan that can be without IMPOSSIBLE: MISSION.
The album is a change of pace to what has come before, it almost plays like an anniversary album (which it might be, maybe from when the three Plug's got together?). It's like an episode of Seinfeld or The Simpsons where the characters sit back and re-run old moments from previous episodes. Except here, these moments are more like Deleted Scenes off a DVD. There's unheard tracks here from DE LA SOUL IS DEAD and BUHLOONE MIND STATE (my favourite De La album), and they're well worth the listen. Predominantly, though, there's plenty of new tracks to savour, and they have a raw, stripped sound to them in comparison to the heavily produced tunes in THE GRIND DATE. My absolute favourite track from this CD is 'Live @ The Dugout '87, that fuses Lalo Schifrin's "The Job" theme from Mission: Impossible. I haven't been this pleased since De La sampled Yes' TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHIC OCEANS for THE GRIND DATE. Aside from all of this, it's great hip-hop. There's no way you'll be able to sit or stand still listening to this.

Finally, more de LA!,

I loved the Grind Date - thought it was a great counterbalance to the AOI stuff - Impossible Mission is the most progressive and creative De La release to date- Some straight up shout-outs to their legacy in the form of a few un-released tracks from the Buhloone Mind and De La is Dead days. Somehow it works, and glues the tracks together. The rest is pure progress - amazing beats and classic mindful De La lyrics - the beats have a nice balance between old school references, and contemporary/progressive unmatched by anything I've heard so far. Thanks De la

Heads of real hip-hop understand how hard it is to stay at the top of the game. Well, these cats from the LI have been on top of things since "Plug Tunin'." reinventing themselves with each new release. This mixtape is no exception. Immediate standouts are "Live at the Dugout '87" (track is ill) "Respect" and "Freedom Train"; though the whole CD is bangin'. Even the previously unreleased tracks kick your mentals back to that old De La Sound that still sounds good today. This group will go down in hip-hop history as classic. Can't wait for Pt. 2.
