Impossible Frog Tongue for 600 Cameras

Impossible manufactures many different products that support our customers' efforts to get the most out of instant analog photography and their vintage Polaroid camera. Please view the video above for essential tips on this item.

This newly designed accessory easily attaches to all box-type Polaroid 600 and SX-70 cameras and automatically shields Impossible instant photographs from light as they eject from the camera. This nifty device greatly improves the results you can achieve with the current Impossible instant films.

How to Use your Frog Tongue

The Frog Tongue is based on the existing sheet of plastic already inside every 600 camera. Unlike the existing tongue, which snaps back into the camera immediately, the Frog Tongue is physically long enough to cover the image completely and stay in place until the image is removed. Installation is extremely simple using the included instruction sheet, or view the video above! Simply remove the nameplate on your camera and replace the old tongue with this new, longer one.

Once permanently installed, it allows stress-free shielding of all Impossible films. You can choose to leave the image under the Frog Tongue for the full 3-5 minutes, or transfer it quickly after those critical first 30 seconds to a light-free area like a pocket or bag.

Why do I need a Frog Tongue?

An excellent question! All Impossible films MUST be shielded from light during the first 3-5 minutes of development, and most critically in the first 30 seconds. This means no shaking please, but straight into your pocket, box or bag, upside-down on a flat surface, or any other light-free place.

This is required because the chemical layer that Polaroid used to shield the film cannot be exactly reproduced - the components are simply no longer available. Impossible's team is working day and night to find a new solution, but for now, images must be protected from light.

More Tips
  • The single best upgrade available for your vintage Polaroid camera
  • Works with hundreds of models of Polaroid 600 and SX-70 cameras with names like OneStep, Pronto, Sun, Impulse, Express, 1000 and many, many others.
  • It does not work with the the foldable Polaroid One600 models, nor the folding SX-70 models

The Impossible Frog Tongue is an ABSOLUTE necessity if you're playing around with Impossible Project film, especially so with older batches. It was relatively easy to install on my Sun 600 LMS, although I did have to cut an additional hole in it for one of the sprockets on the camera. Wasn't a big deal at all, the material is sturdy and didn't tear more than I needed it to. However, once I got it in, it worked flawlessly and dramatically improved the quality of my results!

If you've bought Impossible Project film, and have been a little disappointed with the results, BUY THIS. Seriously, if you spent nearly $25 for 8 shots, spend another $15 to make sure they all come out.

The great news for Polaroid camera lovers is that The Impossible Project makes film for the Polaroid cameras. The bad news is that the film is more sensitive to light in the first few seconds it comes out of the camera. The current tongue on the cameras is too short and retracts before the film is out all of the way. Trying to put your hand over it can cause you to accidentally bend and damage the film while it is coming out. WARNING: the instructions basically tell you to break your camera to put this inside. However, I found it easy to pop-off the front and pop it back in place without needing to break the camera. This is a good addition for your camera for the Polaroid enthusiast.

This simple product makes the development of the Impossible Project film a much easier process. Since you need to keep the film away from light from the get-go, the tongue protects the film until you have a chance to put it in a dark place. Easy to install too.

I purchased the Impossible Frog Tongue for my Polaroid camera about two weeks ago. The use of the Impossible branded film is very particular and is just as sensitive to light as they say. The Frog Tongue makes it very easy to snap photos and quickly shield the light, just as it is designed to do. Works great, comes with two per order. Definitely worth it if you're keen on Impossible film.
