Must have,

This review is from: Impossible Princess (Spec) (Audio CD)
This is a Special Edition of Kylie's much underrated 1997 album IMPOSSIBLE PRINCESS. It features the same album (which was previously titled "Kylie Minogue" after Princess Diana's death), as well as a bonus disc with remixes and some rarities! This is a must have for every Kylie fan.Disc One is the IMPOSSIBLE PRINCESS album. It spawned off a few hits, such as Cowboy Style, Did It Again and Some Kind of Bliss, but ultimately was ignored by the public at large. Kylie often would distance herself from this project, but has now warmed up to it again. It features some very mature songwriting on her part. For many of the tracks she enlisted the help of Manic Street Preachers. She also worked with Brothers In Rhythm for the album. The album is a hybrid of different sounds and music styles. Pop, dance, electronica, rock, and more. My faovrite songs are the electronica flavored Breathe, Say Hey and Drunk, the whimsical I Don't Need Anyone and Limbo, and many more. Disc Two features remixes and a few b-sides. Love Takes Me Over reminds me a bit of Too Far, it was written by the same people. Tears is by far the best b-side, an excellent uptempo song that will make you dance. This Girl is an interesting demo type song. As for remixes there are 3 remixes for Too Far, the Inner Door Mix, North Pole Mix, and Junior's Riff Dub. Three Breathe remixes as well, including Tee's Dub Of Life, Tee's Glimmer Mix (excellent), and Tee's Dancehall mix. There's two mixes for Did It Again including the Did It Four Times Mix (excellent) and the Razor-n-go Mix. There is also a mix for Some Kind of Bliss that is excellent, it's called the Quivver Mix. The mixes from this era are excellent, and since the singles are incredibly hard to find or out of print, its nice to have some of the mixes represented here. This is a must have for all Kylie fans. You won't be disapointed.

A chameleon of popular music,

A true reflection of what I invision Kylie Minogue as being is portrayed here: a wonderful, spirited, lyrical, beautiful, ugly, demanding, creative, and even magical being with the musical talent to wake the impossible princess up from a long dream of random love songs and dance beats. Dark and sometimes unclear, this album is everything I look for when it comes to music. The remixes included on the bonus disc are excellent. Some highlight songs include "Too Far", "Say Hey", "Limbo", "Jump", "Dreams", and "Love Takes Over Me". This is a must have for any Kylie fan/collector. This may not be on the market much longer. Worth the money.

If you have become a fan of MINOGUE's massive EMI release "FEVER" then I strongly suggest for you to get yourself a copy of this CD. You'll enjoy the numerous remixes that contain the same essence as FEVER. The track listing on this CD is the perfect companion to compliment the "FEVER" collection. Note the song "SOME KIND OF BLISS", it's yet a new musical departure for Ms. KYLIE. The song has a spirit and feel that will remind the listener of the BRITPOP sound (horns & strings mixed with electric guitars and upfront vocals). This CD is truly worth purchasing. Listen to it with all your speakers blaring out loud!

Kylie's best by far,
By Felt Mountain "BTGKPDAM" (Australia) - See all my reviews

In my opinion, Kylie reached her creative peak with this album; it was original, creative, dark, and Kylie wrote all of these songs. Which other album do you know that combines orchestration, trip-hop beats, pop, dance, hip-hop, alternative and sex? I know not many.....
It is such a shame that Kylie stilldoesn't release music as original as this. Her sales may not be as high if she released catchy pop songs like Spinning Around - which the listener may get sick of when heard multiple times - but this album is very durable - Her more diehard fans will enjoy it more - I never thought I would see such creative, and complex, songs like Through The Years or Say Hey as a highlight, but after many listens, I now (with Jump, Too Far and Dreams, my two favourite Kylie songs), consider them to be in my top-10 favoutite Kylie song list, not that there is one. The only songs I don't like is I Don't Need Anyone - it just doesn't fit in between the inaccessible tracks Drunk and Jump. And Some Kind Of Bliss is borrderline, but all of the other tracks are very very good, but if I waas to pick a lowpoint, it would be around tracks 3-5 i.e the singles. I prefer original, creative and meaningful songs as opposed to pop, which is why I think that the singles and track 8 are the worst, but all of the other tracks are SPECTACULAR - quite a contrast, actually. The album sold quite poorly compared to her others in the UK. It only went Silver (Kylie's lowest certification) and its chart run in the UK was: 10-22-41-70; I think fans that liked the more pop Kylie weren't really 'ready' in a way for an album so different from all of her others, but with a successful tour to promote this album, Australia saw this album for what it is. It went Double Platinum and peaked at #4. Singles were respectively: Some Kind Of Bliss (#22 UK, #27 Aus) Did It Again (#14 UK, #15 Aus) Breathe (#14 UK, #23 Aus) Cowboy Style (Australia only. #36, Aus) If you liked this album similar to how I haved (i.e liking non-singles over singles etc.) I recomend anything by Bjork - because this Cd is VERY bjork infulenced, Tori Amos, Goldfrapp or so on. Note: There are many people comparing this album to Madonna's Ray Of Light - this album is far better. Compared to this it is bland. 94%

I bought the remastered version of Impossible Princess last year and I love it. The first disc is the original Impossible Princess. The cd didn't do so well when it came out but now a lot of fans have begun to appreciate the cd. I loved the whole thing on my first listen. The cd is full of great songs but here are the ones that I listen to the most: Dreams(in my opinion, by far the best song on the cd),Jump, Limbo, Drunk, Cowboy Style, Breathe, Through the years, and too far. The second disc is full of remixes and songs that the B-sides: Love takes over me, Tears, and This girl. I love all three of those songs, especially Love takes over me. The remixes are all good, especially all the ones for Breathe. This remastered version of Impossible Princess is a must for all Kylie fans, so get it!

Not that good, but love the direction,

As with any mega artist that has been around for 20 years and released a crazy amount of singles and albums. Not everything by that artist is great. This is a prime example, while I thought Cowboy Style and Breathe were two very good songs that i play occasionally. The rest is really just filler. Drunk? Seriously, it's lame techno beats over her saying drunk(haha ok maybe not to that extreme but that's what it felt like to me). After hearing Cowboy style I expected this album to be really good, but was disappointed. I will say one thing, she did do any intersting job of fusing techno along with scottish/british rhythmns on her last few tracks. Other then that some of this album is like a bad kelly clarkson cd(even thought this did come out way before), and the other half a lame techno party. I would buy this album if your into electronic music, but other then that I wouldn't waste any money on it.

I became a Kylie fan late in the game. I didn't know what to expect from this album, just ordered it because I like her. I have to say that I love it. If you have just heard FEVER and BODY LANGUAGE you are in for a surprise. If you like the dancefloor radio ready music of those releases (BTW, I LOVE both of thos albums as well) you may not like this right off, but the more I listen the more I love it. I already loved Kylie but this album made me realize there is more to her than I knew about. And, I like it. Give it a try......

For those of U who may not know of Kylie, and her somewhat 20 year history in the music world, You think...somehow she appeared with (Can't get U Outta my Head) From no where? Well if U think that is something U really should do some homework. Along with her sister Dannii Who's latest CD is simply a masterpiece of vocals and electronic echos and dubs and samples (Neon Nights)who sounds VERY similiar they are a power force for gay and straight fans. So If you do not have this CD or her sisters CD's (yes plural look for Dannii The Re-Mixes) I suggest it, also look into other CD's especially the remixed CD's and the imports with double discs and extra tracks. They are a both one of a kind working with various world known mixers from Vasquez/Razor+Guido/Brothers in Rhythm/Quivver/Todd Terry and one of my all time fav's Trouser Enthusiasts. If you REALLY like great remixes 8-12+ min long I suggest the almost impossible to find CD by Kylie simply entitled (mixes)My Fav being (Did it Again)the T.Enth. Goddess of Contortion mix is OUTSTANDING spooky, and dance floor friendly, it is a great double cd UK Import, well worth. Jason Prof DJ

Kylie's best work!,
By Van Demon (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews

Many people overlook this album, but nearly everyone who listens to it loves it! It is by far Kylie's best album. It features the hits 'Did It Again' and 'Breathe', as well as the Australian single 'Cowboy Style', and of course the debut single, the free and rocking 'Some Kind Of Bliss.' It's a very diverse album that combines dance, techno, transe, and rock all wrapped up in an alternative package. It's easily Kylie's most personal album, with every song writen by Kylie (the only album featuring songs writen solely by Kylie, I believe), but it did not do well commercially. But make no mistake, this is an amazing album! 'Say Hey', 'Too Far', 'Jump' and 'Dreams' are the best on the album as far as I'm concerned, but every song on this album is wonderful. If you hated all four singles, then chances are you'll hate the album too, but try to give it a chance and I'm sure you'll enjoy. I only wish that Kylie's new album was more along these lines, as I feel that Kylie's work is always best when she is in control. The bonus remix album is nice to have, but it's nothing too special. 'Tears' is pretty familiar to most people, but I personally don't care for it. 'This Girl' and 'Love Takes Over Me' are great songs, but the nine remixes are, well, they're remixes. So if you're into remixes then it's a good thing, but I personally prefer the originals by far. But in terms of remixes, these ones are pretty good. Perhaps you're better off with the original version of the album, but I think the remix album is still worth having. Buy it, and enjoy Kylie at her best! |
