5.0 out of 5 stars A Great, Biblically-based Refutation of Evolutionary Theory, June 9, 2005

This review is from: Impossible Theology: The Christian Evolutionist Dilemma (Paperback)
Mike Gascoigne's second book is a sound exploration of why the Christian faith is incompatible with, and diametrically opposed to, Darwin's Theory of Evolution. The first half of the book offers a biblically sound exploration of essential Christian doctrines and beliefs. At the same time, Mike shows how these same Bible-centered beliefs conflict with Evolutionary theory, especially the false assumption that humans are essentially mutated apes that evolved after millions of years of mutation combined with natural selection. The second half of the book then presents a well-researched Appendix filled with scientific facts that prove Mike's points against Evolution. The Appendix goes far beyond emotional appeal in proving that human beings and their world were fully formed from the very beginning - as an act of Creation by a sentient, omnipotent Divine Being.

To add my own note to Mike's well-presented arguments supporting Biblical Creationism and refuting Evolution, the Bible firmly declares that God created Adam and Eve as a fully "evolved" human man and woman. How else could Adam have named all the animals in the Garden of Eden shortly after he was created?

Gen 2:19-20
"Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him."

This Scripture makes it clear that Adam named and remembered each animal that God showed him, and had a great capacity to think and reason on his own before Eve was created and sought forbidden knowledge. Also, in that regard, how could Eve have been tempted to seek the knowledge Satan offered her if she had the simple sentience of an ape? She would have been too stupid to understand what she was missing, and generally uninterested (as well as incapable of) any form of higher learning. Indeed, Satan spoke to Eve verbally when he tempted her, yet apes are incapable of clear speech and cannot understand even the simplest words without concentrated drilling and repetition:

Gen 3:1-2
"Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, `Has God indeed said, "You shall not eat of every tree of the garden"?' And the woman said to the serpent, `We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden'..."

It's clear in this Scripture that Satan and Eve used some method of intelligent communication that is unknown between people and serpents of any kind today. Furthermore, this Scripture tells us that Eve was intelligent enough to know how to speak to the serpent in a language it understood, and vise versa. My point, of course, is the same as Mike's. The Bible leaves no room to doubt the fact that Satan exists, and that Adam and Eve were fully formed humans when they were created. Indeed, they were capable of speech, logic, and reasoning, human traits that led to mankind's first open rebellion against God - or what Christians call the Original Sin.
