I experienced my own Bigfoot sighting years ago and even have a report filed on-line with the BFRO.net - Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization. So I am a believer. What I loved about this book was the revealing insight into the behavior and mindset of these creatures as experienced by these habituators. I have read extensively about Bigfoot. This is the first to provide an on-going account of established relationships rather than numerous reports of split-second sightings with little detail into their behavior. I like the premise also. It gave me a glimpse of HOW they exist in relation to humans not WHETHER they exist. This book is not for the skeptics since they are looking for proof positive, not 5 families' accounts of peculiar, sometimes child-like behavior, inconsistent, and on-going experiences with Bigfoot. I learned a great deal. For the skeptics, you might be interested in checking out the BFRO. The home page is a wealth of information; there are almost 4,000 sighting reports listed by state and then county and a discussion board. It is a very professional and creditable organization with frequent expeditions into the "hot spots" of numerous sightings all over the U.S. The on-line expedition reports are amazing. The BFRO will not publish a report unless the eyewitness has been investigated by a BFRO investigator.
To the author, I really appreciate your time out in the field with these habituators. Your book is very concise and well organized. I look forward to your next book.

Riveting Accounts,
By Marcie Handler "Marcie Handler" (Allentown, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Impossible Visits: The Inside Story of Interactions with Sasquatch at Habituation Sites (Paperback)
I really didn't know what to expect but from the moment I picked up this book I couldn't put it down, didn't get much sleep that night. I've been fascinated by Bigfoot for many years and have read everything I could find on the Internet, but the accounts in Impossible Visits are much more detailed, and better written, than anything I've seen before. The writer managed to track down five cases of sasquatch habituation, which he relates in the voices of the people who were lucky enough to get the sasquatch "visits," in addition to his own research in Vermont, which is amazing all by itself. I'd recommend this book strongly to anyone with an interest in this topic, and even if you think you just MIGHT have an interest, because nobody could read this book and stay apatehtic. The writer says he wanted to put this book together so that when the day comes that a body is found, or a Bigfoot shot and killed, the public will have a reliable source of information to turn to, filled with specifics about sasquatch behavior, intelligence, and non-violence. So they won't just think it's some monster. This book is definitaly a step in the right direction for that.

Fascinating!,
By W. R. Stockstill Jr. ""Bill"" (Marietta, GA United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Impossible Visits: The Inside Story of Interactions with Sasquatch at Habituation Sites (Paperback)
In this incredible book Christopher Noel takes us to the edge of reality and then a few steps beyond (into the woods!). Brief sightings of a hairy upright beast have been reported for hundreds of years in all parts of North America. The Indians, a people much more in tune to their environment, know and respect what is known to most as Bigfoot. Its because over time Native American tribes learned to leave the beast alone and respect it, its not a threat to them. Modern Americans sometimes find themselves face to face with one of these creatures for a brief moment, one they will remember for the rest of their lives.
This book is not about chance sightings. This book is about people who live in wooded areas and have a population of Bigfoot as neighbors. Christopher brings us accounts from several individuals in different parts of the U.S. who have come to realize that Bigfoot is real. And their interactions make for a book that is a real page turner, didn't want to put it down. The behavior exhibited by all the Bigfoot are of extreme shyness. This explains the lack of physical evidence. And they seem to pose no threat to us humans. Noel wrote the book to show the world how easy (and wonderful)it is to have Bigfoot as your neighbor. Most regard the ones that live close as part of the family. His reason for writing the book is because someday Bigfoot will be proven real and these stories may help in getting laws passed to protect them. Its a wonderful book and the accounts truly are fascinating. Its like no Bigfoot book I am aware of and well written. Highly recommend to anyone interested in Bigfoot and the outdoors.

Somewhat Disappointed,
By
This review is from: Impossible Visits: The Inside Story of Interactions with Sasquatch at Habituation Sites (Paperback)
Having long held an interest in the subject, I was somewhat disappointed in what I hoped could have been a true compendium of chronicled Sasquatch Habitation. What I got was a narration more similar to the sighting and contact reports from any one of the many "Bigfoot" web sites.
I sprung for the whole deal and got the accompanying CD that is an option. The stills, with the exception of those from a man from Kansas seem obviously "shopped" and unauthentic. The man from Kansas on the other hand, is doing and I think has done what could be done no other way. And that is to use long distance photography to capture the sasquatch on film. Please understand. I'm not pronouncing judgment on the author's veracity.I do not know him. But I do think that it is possible for well meaning, rational people, to want to believe so bad that objectivity gets clouded. I feel a particle of truth in every account in the book. But I also feel much exaggeration as well. There are no great revelations or provable events in this book. In no tiny way will any skeptic be swayed from anything in this book. Overall it was kind of high priced for the same basic thing you can get for free on the web

I received this book as a Christmas present, and was excited by the premise. After reading it, I'm somewhat disappointed though. While it never tried to be a scientific review, the book falls short in my opinion. It relys entirely on heresay and first person reports from the families involved in the habituated areas. That's not always a bad thing, but I would have liked to have heard some third party reports as well, in order to help document or substantiate these families claims.
I also felt that the author repeated the descriptions of the same type of incidents too much. (Ok, so the husband got pine cones thrown at him every time he mowed the lawn. I get it. Why did you have to mention it two more times?) Another issue I had is the lack of any photographs, sketches, or maps related to the topic. One of the woman involved in the habituations claims to have video and photographic evidence that will make the Patterson-Gimlin film look like a cartoon. Great! Let's see it! Oh, she's trying to sell the film rights to it? Ok, how's about some lesser snapshots then? Nothing? Really? Ok, how's about some photos of the stick structures then? No? Maybe an eyewitness sketch on what the creatures look like? Still Nothing? JEEZ! One item I did like was the inclusion of various old time newspaper reports at the beginning of the chapters. While these are not related to the specific reports used in the book, they do show a historical viewpoint and are often humerous. (Let's just say that reporters back then didn't have to worry about being politically correct and also liked to insert their own opinions into the stories.) To summarize, I feel that this is an ok read, but I suspect that there are better books on the topic available. Try one of the others first.

A Revelation,
By
This review is from: Impossible Visits: The Inside Story of Interactions with Sasquatch at Habituation Sites (Paperback)
As a girl, I remember being thrilled watching the National Geographic shows about Jane Goodall. Her dedicated work with the chimpanzees made me want to grow up and be just like her; I had actual dreams about living deep in the jungle, developing a relationship with primates. Dian Fossey too--I loved her work with those gorillas. I missed this feeling of deep mysterious communion, but I didn't realize how much I missed it till it came back again while I was reading through Impossible Visits and all the stories of men and women (mostly women, though!) who have been trying to gain the respect and acceptance of these giant primates, not far away in Africa but in our own forests, and even, sometimes, in our own backyards.
Just in one long night, Impossible Visits changed the way I look at the world. That might sound like an exaggeration, but since I read the book last month my commute through the north woods of Maine has taken on a whole new meaning, as I now realize that these forests are actually populated, not with animals, and not quite with people either. It's a totally spooky feeling, but I love it! And now I feel amazed that I've driven along these dense forest roads for forty years with absolutely no idea...

This was a terrific book! Its full of all sorts of useful information if you are a Bigfoot researcher. But if you aren't, it is just a real "page-turner". It is hard to put down once you get started.
Well written and thoroughly researched this is an enjoyable and useful read. Also, an added bonus - you can follow a lot of Christopher Noel's research on YouTube under the name "Impossible Visits". A lot of the habituators he interviews in the book have featured footage on his YouTube page.

For those who think Big Foot only exists in the Pacific Northwest, this is an eye opening book. The author shares the experiences of a selection of folks from various parts of the country, as well as his own, encountering Big Foot. Since the author is a personal friend, I can vouch for his veracity. I have not read other books on the subject, but this one is a good introduction for those who are interested in knowing more about this amazing animal.

excellent book,
This review is from: Impossible Visits: The Inside Story of Interactions with Sasquatch at Habituation Sites (Paperback)
Chris Noel interviews 5 or 6 families about their experiences with Bigfoot. One of the best chapters starts "when Bill had the rock fight, he didn't know who he had the rockfight with..." How awesome is that. Not sure if anyone in the Bigfoot world has an academic pedigree and writing skill that is better than Mr. Noel.
This book describes how smart Sasquatch is and what kind of capabilities they have. They are likely much smarter than a human in the forest. The DVD might even be as good as the book.

I enjoyed this book. Christopher Noel's writing style is easy to read and he is very thorough in his descriptions of the encounters of people who are in a habituation situation. (Hey, that rhymes...LOL!) The book is full of stories of people who have been interacting with sasquatch creatures over periods of weeks, months and sometimes years. There is also a wealth of information from Christopher's own research. If you are into the bigfoot phenomena at all, you should include this book in your collection.
(Mr. Noel also has a series of videos on youtube under the name impossible visits, that show some of his research and findings. These videos are interesting to watch and compliment the book). |
