music that's like putting on an old pair of shoes..., August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Impossibles (Audio CD)
One of my all-time favorite albums - between their unpretentious lyrics and not too rude backbeat...If you can't relate completely to at least one of these songs, what do you think you're doing calling yourself a human being? I can't even articulate the greatness of these boys...Listening to the Impossibles is like putting on an old pair of shoes, the kind you learn inside and out...The day they broke up, I felt like I was loosing my best friend.

An album to grow up with, October 8, 2006
This review is from: Impossibles (Audio CD)
Nine years ago, I didn't know what ska was, I didn't know what punk was, and I most definitely did not know what good music was. I even knew all the lyrics to Huey Lewis' "Hip to Be a Sqaure." Pathetic. So, when a close friend popped this CD into the stereo, my musical education began. Ever since then, "Impossibles" has been there for me, a good all-purpose musical statement, a reassurance that I wasn't the only comics-and-model-airplanes kid on Earth, and the perfect vade mecum for late-1990s Austin, TX. "Impossibles" is creative, energetic, and always fresh.
Coincidentally, Weezer's blue album was (like most of the reviewers here say of themselves) my other great awakening. Weird. I never thought Impossibles and Weezer sounded all that alike, but I can see it. Similar outlook, similar grinding guitars, but the Impossibles are tinged with ska: tight guitar, dueling vocals, and loads of back beat.
This album has to be heard to be believed.

the Impossibles are a great band, and this is a great work, full of romance-related angst that everyone can relate to. and yet somehow, upbeat. ya gotta get it, and ya gotta sing along ;)
