This review is from: Impressions (Audio CD)
Sir Rolland Hannah (got title in Kenya I believe) was as consistent yet flexible bop to post bop pianist arround. What is great about Hannah's style is he cold play beautifully in the Bud Powell style but mastered everyone from Monk to the swing masters.Recorded in early 70's with Major Holley and Alan Jackson and George Duvivier and Oliver Jackson play standards from "Body and Soul" to Miles "All Blues".Check his reference to Miles/Bill Evans in original cut "Reflections".Everything I have bought on the Blues and Jazz Definitive Black and Blues Series has been excellent. At $20 not budget CD's but getting greats who were mid stream in their careers or some at the end these to a CD are all worth checking out.But this was the second I bought after really mellow Ram Ramirez ( a shocking oversight i that it may have been one of only sessions as leasers and the guy wrote "Lover Man" this french series great. But this is a superb effort in Hannah's career which was chock full of gems.
