4.0 out of 5 stars Good Beginner book
I found the book very useful and easy to read. There was just enough technical information in the text to be informative without being overwhelming. I did order the Kindle edition of the book and unfortunately many of the example photos were missing (some were included, but not all). So several of the examples in the book would refer to a picture that was missing...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, But I need to Grab & GO
I recently bought two books to help with my pics. I like this one it's good but also too wordy for me. It is good for beginners but also I know what a lens is and what a filter can do. This book and "The Key to Taking Pictures Like A Pro" were both recommended to me and there was good points I preferred the other book more.

5.0 out of 5 stars The reasons why you should buy this book, October 29, 2011
This review is from: Improve Your Photography: How Budding Photographers Can Get Pro Results (Kindle Edition)
1. the book is relatively short.
2. The book describes in human terms the terminology so you slowly can get into the scene
3. While reading the book even if you don't own a DSLR camera, you can still learn what you like in a camera in order to better buy a camera in the future.
4. The book explains to you how to buy a camera and the lens to match

So that about 4 things I really liked about this book :), I must say that since I started reading the book I begin discovering the mistakes I make while taking a photo, and as it appears those were critical to the results of my camera.
The book was very helpful also in teaching me new techniques and I feel that now I can take a decent picture at any given scenario, and in some scenarios an awesome photo.

The book doesn't cover photography from A to Z but it certainly cover it from A to F, the rest is more advanced books or just plain old self tutoring.

If your interested in getting into photography - I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Resource, March 31, 2011
This review is from: Improve Your Photography: How Budding Photographers Can Get Pro Results (Kindle Edition)
This is a good resource to keep handy. It's well written, easy to understand. I've enjoyed photography for many years, and think even experienced photographers would do well to follow these common sense tips that really make a difference.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ooooooh, NOW they tell me!, November 17, 2011

As a beginner to the fancy part of photography brought to you by the letters P, A, S and M, as well as the concepts of f-stops, ISO, white balance, noise and shooting at 1/1000 of a second, I found this book to be extremely useful in explaining the basics without making me go cross-eyed with frustration.

The camera manual was helpful to a point, especially in explaining which button and dial does what, but got too complicated in explaining what happens when you push or rotate said buttons and dials, and how it affects your photograph.

Within a page or few, the light clicked on about underexposed and overexposed images, fast and slow shutter speeds, depth of field, and ISO. I am now practicing shooting in Aperture mode (A), which is a huge step up from Auto, and although I'm not quite ready for Manual mode (M), I can see it in my future.

Written in simple conversational language with practical scenarios, this guide spends a lot of time on exposure, but also incorporates everything from holding the camera properly, to shooting landscapes, sunsets, moving subjects, RAW files, portraits, night scenes, star trails and HDR. It even gives tips on buying cameras, lenses, equipment and software.

The only thing missing in this Kindle version are some of the examples and illustrations to go with the concepts covered. Also recommended is a visit to the author's website ImprovePhotography.com where you can get daily tips with full colour examples.

Goes great with the other books. Once I got my digital camera it was fun to just start clicking away. However, I noticed that my camera didn't produce the amazing pictures that I saw others take with the same camera. Then it "clicked" OPERATOR ERROR! These books are great in teaching how to get the most out of you pictures, even if it is just the kids on a snow hill. Thanks to the author for a great series of books! Get them, and they will help you like they have helped me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical Steps for the Beginner, February 13, 2011
This review is from: Improve Your Photography: How Budding Photographers Can Get Pro Results (Kindle Edition)
It was a welcome relief to find a book which was oriented to telling the reader how-to-to-it. It's almost like you and the author are together on a photo shoot and having his help in getting things set-up correctly. Great job!!

Phil.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, October 27, 2010
This review is from: Improve Your Photography: How Budding Photographers Can Get Pro Results (Kindle Edition)
I am just getting started in photography and found this book to be extremely informative. In communicating with other photographers, I realized that, because of this book, I knew many things that other photographers who have been shooting for years do not know. If you are a beginner or an intermediate photographer, don't wait any longer. Just buy this book. You will not regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly What I Needed To Know, November 4, 2011
This review is from: Improve Your Photography: How Budding Photographers Can Get Pro Results (Kindle Edition)
I learned in one-half hour what I have been wanting to learn for years. That is exactly how shutter speed, aperture and ISO work together and how to achieve best results using all Manual settings. I went out with my camera after reading this book and captured crystal clear, sharp photos by overriding all the auto settings. I had never been able to do that before. Auto settings may be useful at times but for the most part auto relies on averages. Telling the camera what you want and getting it is much better as it gives the photographer complete control. If you have been frustrated with the same issues as I was then I highly recommend you buy this book. It is not a long or detailed book will give you the knowledge you need to take vastly improved photos. I give it five stars!
