This review is from: The Improvement of the Mind: To which is Added a Discourse on the Education of Children and Youth (Paperback)
If I had only known about this book when I was getting started in life! This is an outstanding book designed to teach you how to read, analyze, digest and judge books, conversations, lectures &c. It teaches you how to interact not only with the printed page but with other people, whether you agree or disagree. It teaches and encourages you to overcome your own prejudices, or the prejudices of others, in analyzing and judging ideas.
There is so much experience, wisdom, and sound advice in this book that this book is something that should be provided as a gift to young men and women getting started in life. It could make a profound impact on their entire life, helping them to lead more useful, wiser, more intelligent, and more virtuous lives.

You will appreciate what Watts has to say, but perhaps not always how he gets around to it (fairly common for the 1700's). I enjoyed the punny names he created for his examples in each chapter.
Clearly he longed to see young people trained in a Biblically appropriate manner. On a negative note, had to create my own table of contents.

Every personal library should include a copy of this vital mind challenger. Teach your children this when they begin to ask question. I wish I had someone teach this to me.
