Had a serious back injury & could not bend over for almost one year! The Deluxe Reacher was so helpful that I ordered another 2. I have one in the laundry room, one in the kitchen & one in the bedroom. They are made well & effortless to use! Thanks.

This particular item is very very helpful for those who have issues that make reaching and bending difficult. I have two and I love them. The cautionary part of this tale comes in during the choosing of the actual item. This is difficult to do during mail order. Amazon will do their best to help you, if you receive a shoddily made grabber, but you must let them know! Particular vendors are responsible for their own items and they are the ones who choose to send grabbers that are so very cheaply made. I would definitely NOT purchase one of these if it is listed as used. If you receive one that is well made and works well... then they are awesome! Don't expect the grabber to pick up every single thing. However, do expect it to make picking most items up a little easier.

This arrived sealed in a plastic bag. Upon opening the bag, I discovered that the reacher was smeared with a sticky substance and had greasy fingerprints on various parts. The red handles were scratched and dinged up. There was a little "dust bunny" with fibers and hairs in it between the gripper hinge parts. I mean REALLY! Disgusting!

This item turned out to be so cheap that it broke before I even got to use it. I took it out of the plastic, tried it by squeezing the handle which became stuck and the lock feature was already broken. There are 2 different makes of this same item and I think they inadvertently sent me the cheaper one for $6 by samstool in error. I wouldn't recommend this item to ANYONE! I returned it for credit and didn't even have to pay for shipping fees! Amazon took very good care of me in that respect.

I really couldn't see being independent between care visits without this item to pick things up off the floor etc! If only it were a little stronger for heavier items it would be completely perfect.

This grabber is to light or flimsy for me.

It would be good for paper type things.

I tried to pick up a can of corn and was unable to retrieve it.

I broke a glass because it was unable to grasp it.

It worked for 5 days. The release jammed and it would only open some times. Then it quit completely. Waste of money!

Not what I'd expected or needed. It's not very useful as I had difficulty even removing something as light as a cereal box from an upper cabinet. The lock does not work consistently either.

Advantages:

Very light: 5 ounces instead of a couple pounds.

Folds: in half for storage.

Picks up small items: Throw a dollar bill or dime on the floor, picks it up easily!

Locks: After grasping throw a switch to lock jaws closed on item.

Pistol grip: Easy aiming.

Sturdy: Mine still works as new after a year.

Disdvantages:

Heavy items: Cannot not pick 'em up, the smallest Cambells Soup can is the limit.

I cannot imagine a better one is made. Buy a heavy duty model for heavy items, and use this one the other 95% of the time.

I loved it at first but I've gone through two in one month. They both broke off one of the suction cups and after they fall off the whole thing doesn't work anymore. Would have been great if it didn't break but I'm not about to buy a third one :(
