4.0 out of 5 stars A book for a particular user, January 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Jazz Improvisation For The Classical Pianist (Paperback)
I have used this book for several years. It is useful for someone who already knows how to play but is clueless about improvisation. It defines the terms that are peculiar to the jazz idiom, with examples. Now that I have more experience, I still use it as a reference.

1.0 out of 5 stars bloated and tedious, April 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Jazz Improvisation For The Classical Pianist (Paperback)
There's a lot of talk here and very little action. The musical examples are difficult to read (poor resolution). In any case, I don't buy the premise: the "classical pianist" should do very well with the proven texts of Jerry Coker and John Mehegan. (I also recommend PENTATONIC SCALES FOR THE JAZZ-ROCK KEYBOARDIST by Jeff Burns.)
