Implusive by Cathryn Fox, May 4, 2010
This review is from: Impulsive: An Eternal Pleasure Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
Sunni Matthews and Ray Bartlett are two young adults in love. Since their parents don't approve of the match, they often meet in secret to fulfill their lust. On one of these occasions, a very large dog with pewter colored eyes tracks Ray to a cabin. After Ray and Sunni come together, the dog breaks its way through the door, killing Ray but only biting Sunni.
A century later, Sunni, now a werewolf, is still mourning the loss of Ray. The alpha that changed her, Vall is a vicious and cruel leader and one that Sunni gladly watches die. She has recently escaped that clan and has started a new life in Chicago. In this present day, supernaturals have been discovered by humans, but the secret has been contained. The government has set up a covet operation, PTF or Paranormal Task Force. They are trained to hunt and kill supernaturals.
By a twist of fate, Sunni picks up the scent of Ray, and she is shocked. She believes in reincarnation, but can't quite believe her eyes, or her nose, when she picks up the scent of Ray on a man named Kane. She starts hanging out at Risque, a club where she first smelled his scent.
Kane comes to Risque for one thing - sex - and Sunni, reveling in the idea that this is actually Ray is more than willing to give it to him. But this sex will not be so simple. Kane turns out to be on the PTF. Sunni is positive Kane and Ray are the same person and wants to make things work with him. When news of a rogue werewolf hits town, Sunni and Kane must put their presumptions behind them to move forward.
Impulsive is a quick steamy read that I enjoyed. The full title of the book is Impulsive: An Eternal Pleasure Novel so I knew going in that there would be an erotic flair, and Cathryn Fox definitely does not disappoint. First, I like the twist that supernaturals have been discovered, but not by the general population. For Sunni, she not only has to worry about being hunted by the PTF, but in her case a rogue werewolf is also hunting her. She has it coming from both sides. Since Sunni fled her pack, she is truly alone.
Kane has also sequestered himself, because he is a hunter and he fears if he keeps in close contact with is family, the wolves would harm his family to get to him. It is not a huge stretch for him to seek out and evenutally trust Sunni. Even though his brain recoils at the thought of reincarnation, his instincts don't. Deep down he knows her, and that helps him overcome his speculations.
With a light BDSM theme, the sex scenes in this book are very hot. At times, Kane acts more like a wolf, in his ever pressing need to have sex rather than a human. I also would have liked to have more page time devoted to the villain, the rogue wolf. I kind of feel like the violence and intrigue of the rogue got left behind a bit.
Cathryn Fox is a new to me author, but I will definitely be checking her out again. Impulsive is a fast paced, steamy paranormal romance.

Thoughts
This is the second book in this series. Instinctive, Impulsive and then Indulgent 1/11. I suppose you could read them individually, but there are characters and situations carried over from the first. The pace is fast kept my interest. The book was over before I knew it. I liked Sunray from the first one to this one, it was great to see her reunited with Ray. The character development was evident. Their connection and love is an unstoppable thing. Highly recommended paranormal erotica
