whoa....,

While not attaining the perfection of THUNDER AND CONSOLATION (what could?), there is nothing on this album that isn't delivered as if Justin Sullivan's life depended on it. The songs themselves are flawless; "Innocence" and "Vanity" alone are worth the price. The only flaw here is "Get Me Out", and that's only because the live version on ...& NOBODY ELSE is astounding to the point that the original presented here just doesn't compare. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

My first NMR album and still my favorite!,

I grew up in the 1980s and I had never even heard of New Model Army until I was stationed in Germany in 1992-1993. This was the first album of theirs that I ever bought and it's still my favorite. That CD got lost sometime during the move back to the United States and I'm so glad that I finally decided to buy a new copy (I was actually holding out for this album to show up in the Amazon MP3 store or on iTunes, but it doesn't look like that's happening anytime soon). There's not a bad track on here. In fact, "Before I Get Old" and "Marrakesh" are two of my all-time favorite songs. I highly recommend it!

This album is second in their discography only to "Thunder and Consolation," and not by much at that. The musical range on this on is actually a bit broader, from dirge-like "Before I Get Old" to the flat out rocker "Lurhstaap," the New Model Army delivers in ways no one else can. The only way to get any better than this is to see it live.
The musical influences noted elsewhere are all audible in the final product, but the way it's put together is like no other band you've ever heard before. Either Thunder or this cd will give a great introduction into one of the best bands you've never heard of.
