I reccomend this to anyone who plans on coking tamales or crab, lobster or other large items that need steaming.

This is probably fine as a steamer, although the aluminum is very thin gauge.

I'm very pleased with this large stock pot. I borrowed an aluminum 20 qt stock pot last fall to do some canning. I enjoyed canning so much that I decided I wanted a stock pot of my own. Most of my cookwear is All-Clad or Calphalon. But a 20 qt stock pot in either brand is very expensive and the pot, itself, quite heavy. This Imusa aluminum pot suits my needs perfectly and is reasonably priced. It's sturdy enough and very light. So far, I've used it to cook turkey stock (post-Thanksgiving) and I've used it for canning. I intend to use it for cooking lobster. The steamer tray fits perfectly into the pot (which has a ridge on the inside for holding it in place). The steamer tray worked well for canning, too, keeping the jars off the bottom of the pot. Just remember that, unlike an All-Clad or other high end version of a large stock pot, this is aluminum inside and out. So nothing acidic (you probably already know that) in the Imusa. Don't cook tomato sauce in this. Don't add lemon to your stocks. You get what I mean. Happy cooking, everyone.

The Imusa Steamer Pot, 20 Quart is a well known Brand in Latin American Countries, it was given to me as a Gift last year. It is made out of Heavy Gauge Aluminum and is very Light anybody can lift it...and is BIG! It comes with the Steamer Insert and holds a lot of Tamales. I make the Traditional Tamales with either Pork or Chicken, preferably the second one and I like to use California Chiles they are Mild making a Vibrant Red Sauce, I get the "Masa" from a Local Mexican Market, it Saved time and it turned out Great! I cook them in batches and make Hundreds during the Holidays giving some of them away

Even though this Steamer doesn't have a flimsy Lid, I always like to put a brick wrapped in Aluminum Foil on Top of it to keep the Steam in. The Imusa Steamer does a Great Job I never ran out of water and I steam my Tamales for over 2 Hours, with no problems. It measures exactly, 12 inches wide by 10 inches high, the space between the bottom of the Pot and the Steamer Insert is about 2 1/2 Inches High...a lot of Water. I wash the Pot by hand because I want to keep it looking nice for a long time. There are so many more things you can do with this Steamer however, making Tamales is my Favorite! ...Check Pictures Posted, Thank You

I have never used this pot as a steamer. But if you are planning on making a smoker out of this pot and a weber joe silver, you will be very pleased. It fits like a glove, and the ring that was designed to hold the steamer grate will hold the grill rack for the joe perfectly. It is also very easy to drill the smoke holes, but watch out those metal shavings are sharp. Sorry everyone who wants to use this as a steamer, as intended. This review isn't helpful for you, but if you are a DIY BBQ guy, then this thing works like a champ.

I have used this pot once for tamales. I had 5 dozen in the pot and was only about 3/4 of the way packed. I look forward to using this pot again in a couple of more weeks.

This cooker is just the right size fo cooking tamales or crab legs. I love it and wonder how I have done without it for so long. I reccomend this to anyone who plans on coking tamales or crab, lobster or other large items that need steaming. For just $20.00 this is a great buy and should not be missed.

If you have any intention of using these pots in an application that requires you to take the water level past the handle rivets (which is about 12 quarts for the 20 quart version) purchase a different pot. I ordered two and both of them arrived with leaky handle rivets. They seem to be decent pots otherwise.

I have only used the steamer once but I already know it will be used often! It is Set up nicely for the open-ended tamales I like to make, just set pot at about a 45 degree angle (I rested it inside a salad bowl) and stack the tamales and steam. I will also use it for small batch steam canning, and watch out lobsters here I come!!!

First things first, this thing is HUGE!!! I use it for steaming dumplings and seafood and I never have a concern if it will all fit. It heats up quickly and I'm not really concerned about any possibly of it breaking.

There are a few minor drawbacks. The aluminum construction, while heating up quickly (aluminum has a low specific heat and transfers heat quickly, that's why radiators and heatsinks are made from it) discolors with repeated heat cycles. The brushed surface can be tricky to keep clean. Besides that, there's nothing really bad about it. If you're not really concerned with looks and you just want a huge steamer to make some awesome food, this is a sure shot.
