5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding vocals - as usual
This is just another example of outstanding "Country Music" sung by a true artist. There are three remakes of old standards, that are better (in my opinion) than the original versions of the hits. There is some new material included as well. My favorite male vocalist of all time.

It was a good cd and it was good to hear Gene Watson again since it has been years since he had a hit. He's an oldie but a goodie.

5.0 out of 5 stars LIKE WINE HE GETS BETTER WITH TIME, September 27, 2007
This review is from: In a Perfect World (Audio CD)
THIS IS ONCE AGAIN ANOTHER GREAT ALBUM FROM GENE. HE IS LIKE WINE HE GETS BETTER WITH TIME. IN MY OPINION HE IS THE GREATEST SINGER OF ALL TIME IN COUNTRY MUSIC. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF REMAKES THAT ARE BETTER THIS GO ROUND. THE NEW ARE JUST AS GOOD. I ONLY WISH COUNTRY MUSIC WOULD GO BACK TO IT'S ROOTS AND STOP ALLOWING "POP" AND "ROCK" AND CALLING THAT COUNTRY. GENE IS A CLASSIC. GREAT ALBUM. MUST BUY FOR TRUE "COUNTRY" MUSIC FANS!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!! Must have for pure country listeners!!, December 29, 2007

This CD is terrific - pure country - Gene Watson better with time.

I love the duets with Vince Gill, Rhonda Vincent, Lee Ann Womack.

I usually don't like artists covering songs that were big hits by other performers but "Together Again" and "Today I Started Loving You Again" are fantastic new interpretations of these classics. I absolutely loved them. All of the duets are fantastic and every song on this CD is amazing. It is too bad Gene Watson is not getting air play on the radio because this is a great CD. Anyone who is a Gene Watson fan will love this CD and anyone who loves pure country music will love it!!!

Thank goodness for GENE WATSON sticking with REAL country music. I have been a fan of his music for many years and his voice is like fine wine! We don't hear very much "country" music anymore, just a lot of yelling and words you can't understand and the artist call it "country" music. If they want to know what country music sounds like they just need to listen one of Gene Watson's songs. This cd is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, November 13, 2011

Absolute Hardcore Country at it's finest.

It literally doesn't get any better than this. Like most serious listeners I don't usually go for covers but

Together Again and Today I Started Loving You are exceptional.

I would recommend the CD to anyone who enjoys Gene Watson's music. It has a lot of the old songs that were popular and some new ones that are really good.

I would recommend this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure, 100% real country...!!, March 29, 2008
This review is from: In a Perfect World (Audio CD)
Honkytonk balladeer Gene Watson is one of the growing legion of great country performers who had big hits not that long ago, but can't get their calls returned anymore by the newbie Nashville execs who are too busy planning Tim McGraw's next TV appearance. No matter: years ago Watson went indie and ever since then, even though he's off the radar, he's been putting out some of the finest hard-country albums around, pretty much like he did when he was hitting the charts.

Watson is a country singer's country singer, as evidenced by a testimonial from George Jones that's stuck onto the outside of this album, and by the calibre of talent that accompanies him on this guest-star extravaganza. Mark Chesnutt, Vince Gill, Lee Ann Womack and Connie Smith -- these are all artists who have straddled the divide between traditional country and whatever pop compromises the times demanded of them, and they all bring their full powers to bear on this fine album, as do Joe Nichols and Rhonda Vincent, artists whose stars are currently on the rise. No one outshines Watson, though, particularly on searing ballads such as "A Good Place To Turn Around," "She's Already Gone," and "Let Me Be The First To Go." Gene Watson is one of those true, great honkytonkers who can find the true core of pathos and sorrow, yet sing it out in a way that makes it seem like times ain't gonna be so bad after all. This is a true country lover's delight, with one fine performance after another -- it you like old-school honkytonk and like it when artists keep things real, then cast your vote and pick this album up. It's the kinda stuff you want to hear. (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue country reviews)

5.0 out of 5 stars Now This is Country!!!, February 13, 2008
This review is from: In a Perfect World (Audio CD)
This is what the real deal sounds like. Pure county sounds - not the current "Hot Country" one hears these days on the radio. I grew up in Nashville and this brings me back home.
