The Backstreet Boys have always been a group who stress vocals over popularity. Even though there first three albums sold millions and set record, the group has never strayed away from becoming different. They have produced songs that are vocally excellent. There new album "In A World Like This," is the group's 20th anniversary album. Yes, they've been around that long. This new album has all the creativity of their previous albums, with new twists on certain songs. Also Kevin Richardson is back with the band after a six year hiatus. He is very apparent in many of the major vocals as well, a departure from earlier albums when he had more backup and bass parts. Below is a rating for each of the songs on the album:

1) In A World Like This: The first single, named after the album, is a solid pop hit, with great vocals from all five members. The song was written by Max Martin, who has worked on their earlier albums from the 90s. The song even has a 90s/early 2000's sound to it, but that's not bad at all. However, the song may not do so well on radio because of that. Still, it's a great song that deserves attention: 9.5/10

2) Permanent Stain: Permanent Stain was a promotional single that was put online in May. It has a upbeat tempo to it, but doesn't sound as crisp as "In A World Like This." I like the verses of the song, but the chorus sounds a little unorganized. Overall, it is a listenable pop song but the band has better songs on this album and on other albums: 7/10

3) Breathe: Breathe is a slow, pop rock song that features major vocals from Kevin and AJ. It has sort of an 80s slow rock vibe to it, and that makes it sound unique to today's music. The vocals and instrumentals on the song match well. Overall, a good song from the group: 8.5/10.

Selling over 130,000,000 albums worldwide certifies that the "Backstreet Boys" are indeed wonderful singers and not just some bubble-gum singing team that are one hit wonders. "In a World Like This" ranks up there with some of the finest albums and come Grammy time I know they'll be taking a few home.

Wonderfully produced, the album really shines with the way the boys (really men now) sound. Yes they have great songs, producers and the like, but what has always sold them as an act are how their voices blend magically and you never get the feeling that their music will become outdated.

I do have some songs that I am not too crazy about on the CD, but that's not important. What is important are the ones I love, especially "Breathe" that I am sure will be released as a single as it's their best love song in their catalogue. The strings, horns, and voices make "Breathe" work into a memorable single that all will enjoy.

Welcome back boys!

This album has been worth the wait! I have been a fan since 1995 and after all this time they still do not disappoint! :) They sound as if they are just started and this would be their first album! They have some of their original sound with new flavor! So glad the whole group is back together! 20 years later you guys are still awesome! Thank you for such a great album! Consider your hard work paid off! <3 my BSB!

In the 90s I was simply not into boy bands, but having grown up in those years there was absolutely no way to NOT hear about them. They were everywhere and they dominated the charts for most of my teenage and young adult years. Recently, I heard one of their songs play on the radio and I felt a deep sense of nostalgia. Because, let's be honest, even if you weren't into them back then somehow you had heard the songs, somewhere, all the time. I looked them up on YouTube and started listening to their hits...I was BLOWN away. Ok, so I get why I was not a fan back then, my thing was punk, grunge, alternative, techno, etc. But WOW, this was excellent, well made pop music...I kind of regret not giving them a chance back then. But I finally discovered what every BSB fan already knew. These men weren't just a boy band. They are musicians and I've totally and completely become a fan. GET THE ALBUM!

First off, I am a huge backstreet boys fan and grew up listening to their music in the 90s. I love all their albums, but this one is just not doing it for me. I just can't get into it. I like maybe 2 songs off of the whole record, but the rest don't sound anything groundbreaking or appealing to me. I miss Brian's lead vocals on this album, and there is basically none of that. The chorus's of almost every song sound generic. Most of their songs on this album are acoustic. I don't mind some, but there is merely too much and not enough of a little bit of everything. I'm glad Kevin is back in the group so that are are reunited with each other, but I feel like they took too much of a different direction with this album.

This is hands down one of my favorite CDs. I have had it in my car for months on end only taking a break for Christmas, which anyone who knows me knows is crazy. I usually get sick of any music played repeatedly. My sister and I went to see Backstreet Boys in concert during their tour with Avril Lavigne. I hadn't heard any of their new stuff and personally was more excited to see Avril (who ended up sick and not performing.) But I was so glad that I decided to stay for the BSB because they were AMAZING! Every time they said they were playing one of their new songs, I was pleasantly surprised. immediately after the concert, I made a straight shot to the merch table so I could get their new CD. I enjoy every single song on this CD. There isn't one that I skip, which is very rare. There's a good variety of songs on it, too. I love, love, love it! I hope they continue working together for years to come!
