Book Description

It all began on a New York City sidewalk. It was so surreal. Juilliard, the enormous brick building that held my dreams and the possibilities of my future. I was prepared for the challenges ahead. What I didn’t expect was to lose my focus the second I met him. Living the dance was no longer the only important thing in my life.

The City opened my eyes, but he transformed me.

Two dancers. One big city. He was determined to make a new start. She was ready to make it in the ballet world. Neither expected love to play a part in achieving their dreams. They also didn't expect it to be so destructive. Samson and Natalia took the leap anyway, not worrying about the fall.

Let me start by saying I have been waiting for this book for months now, I have been watching and reading all the teasers the author has been sending out and was so excited to finally get to read this book but also wondered would the story be as good as I thought it would with this being the author's first book... well I was not disappointed, it was so much better than I could have ever expected.

The story is written in multiple POV's and at first I wasn't sure if I liked it, but as I got into the book and the characters, I absolutely loved know what was going on with everyone, the author truly did an amazing job writing this story from the different POV's, cause if it's not done right, it truly is hard to connect with the story and to enjoy it, this was not the case with this book

The story starts off with Natalia and her dying father, I felt every emotion that Natalia did and by the end of the prologue, I was a blubbering mess. After her Fathers death the story then picks up at her first day at Juilliard where before she even enters the building meets Samson, a guy who truly does not live up to any of the stereotypes of male ballet dancers. From the moment he entered the story, I knew I would love him, only problem, Aubrey, his long time girlfriend and childhood sweetheart, which I am truly a sucker for. But from the moment he meets Natalia, you feel the chemistry between them and we quickly learn that things aren't going well for Team Aubrey. Normally I would be all sympathetic for her, being his childhood sweetheart but she is a spoiled rotten rich girl.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jumping In The Air April 2, 2013
By Ella VZ
I loved the story of Samson and his Natalia. This book was so different to anything I'd read before - especially Samson's perspective of being a ballerina. He is not your average book hero, and I found it fresh and interesting.

It's not just about dancing and love - it tackles so many everyday issues like fear, loss, guilt, promiscuity, cheating, friendship, self-deprecation, and body image. The list goes on... Even the music mentioned in the book was fantastic.

I loved the main characters. And you can't help but love to hate Kingsley - she's an absolute firecracker.
Wren... oh, Wren - I can't wait to see what fate has in store for him in the rest of the series.

It's fast-paced and keeps you intrigued from the first chapter. I can't wait to see more from Crystal Serowka!

2.0 out of 5 stars Needs more depth April 22, 2013

This story has potential. I like the mirrored lives of the H/h. They have different backgrounds and support networks, but find themselves in very similar circumstances. I appreciated that the characters were honest with each other and the misunderstandings were dealt with immediately rather than drawn out to create the plot. I also liked the incorporation of the dreams and her father - the sense that he is still looking out for her. That approach speaks to the readers on a different level and provides a depth that was definitely needed.

Unfortunately there is a lot more of this book that I didn't like. The biggest problem I had with the story was the timing. It really felt like everything about this book was really rushed (it takes place over the course of about two weeks). Had the author taken the time to develop the story line a bit more, it would have brought it so much more depth to the characters and the emotions the experienced. Instead everything happened quickly and left me feeling unconvinced.

I realize the characters in this story are 18 years old, but when you include this kind and amount of sexual content into a story, it really removes it from the young adult category (which is fine with me). In that respect, there was some pretty juvenile banter and extraneous profanity, neither of in my mind appeal to someone reading a contemporary adult or new adult book.

My first impression of Sampson was not a good one. The cockiness was really annoying and made him entirely unlikeable. I toyed with the idea of setting the book aside because he was really annoying. Kudos to the author for convincing me by the end he wasn't all that bad.

Not a fan of epilogues.

3.0 out of 5 stars I see a lot of potential, but isn't quite there yet. April 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
3.5/5 Stars

Natalia just arrives in New York City to attend school at Julliard. As soon as she sees it she is mesmerized, seeing her dream right in front of her. Here she bumps into Samson. Natalia feels an attraction to him but comes off as abrasive and mean. She didn't want to be attracted to anyone, she just wanted to concentrate on her dancing. Samson too is attracted to her but he's already in a relationship. Both being as talented as they are the get paired together and the chemistry is irrefutable. After spending so much time together in and out of the studio they just are not able to resist each other.

Trying to not giving anything else away! But anyhow, I really was excited about this book because it's rare that we find a story that involves the arts especially dance. I honestly can't think of ballet stories I've read yet so this really piqued my interest. To me though, the story was a little bit juvenile. Better if it categorized as a YA story. Being that it is a first novel, I do see a lot of potential. This one just skims the surface of what can develop into something fantastic.
