I had to read this for a college theatre class and just recently saw the staged production. There is a difference in perception but both are absolutely wonderful. I love the printed play and read the whole thing in one sitting. Once I started I just couldn't stop, I had to know the outcome for Hester and her children. The production was great, but if you're not use to doubling casting then it could get confusing. The transitions were great and the character transformations were exceptional. It's just a great play all the way around. I highly recommend this to anyone, even if you've never read the Scarlet Letter.

This play was used for a Women in Drama course I recently took. I was impressed at how well the play flowed considering I knew ahead of time that it was a modernization of The Scarlet Letter.

Suzan Lori-Parks utilizes Brechtian concepts and create a memorable tragedy for modern audiences.
