Book Description

Fletcher Owens is full of secrets.

Few people know he spends his nights volunteering for a Search and Rescue team, saving lives while risking his own. Even fewer know he’s in love with his best friend’s sister. And since he’s not willing to give up their friendship for a chance at something more, that’s exactly how things will stay.

Lexie Sinclair has nothing to hide.

The zany daughter, the wacky sister, the quirky fundraiser for a children’s charity — Lexie couldn’t hide her true self even if she wanted to. So when her brother’s best friend is revealed to be a local hero, she’s determined to stand up and prove she’s ready to be more than just friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute, sweet, and a little hot sex November 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase

This was a sweet story that I popped out in a few hours. The hero and heroine play more unique characters. He is all shy and a little introverted and she is a quirky klutz that has no filter. It gave it a little bit of a different spin. I got the book to begin with because that sounded cute and it was. I think my favorite part was the sex scene. It was intense and a little animalistic and totally worth the wait. I just wish we got to see them together for a little bit. I wanted an epilogue or something. I think it would have been sweet to watch them fumble around as a couple.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute Story May 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a really cute story, but unfortunately, the characters fell a little flat for me. Rather Fletcher kind of didn’t fill my expectations. I liked him enough, but I didn’t really buy him as leading man material until the very end of the book. And I really liked Lexie, she was fun and quirky, which I always find appealing. But I was really confused about her feelings for Fletcher. I had been under the impression that she was interested in Fletcher from the start of the story. Then when he finally announced his feelings, it seemed like she wasn’t interested in him in more than a friendship way.

My favorite part of the story was the Search and Rescue aspect. I loved that it wasn’t just a backstory for Fletcher, but that we actually got to experience him on one of their missions. It made Fletcher a more interesting character during that time frame where I wasn’t 100% sold on him. My least favorite part of the story was Lexie’s twin brother Sean. He was an absolute jerk and I have a feeling it was because he wanted Fletcher for himself…and not just in a best friend way. Overall, this was an entertaining read and I will definitely try more by Tamara Morgan in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short but packed an emotional punch! November 13, 2013
By Timitra
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved this book so much that I devoured it in one sitting. There aren't many books that make me cry, this was one of the few that did. I love when books engage my emotions this one did it made me laugh and cry at the same time. For a short book it packed an emotional punch and the characters were very well developed. This is my first book by this author but it most certainly will not be my last because I love her writing style, it flows so easily you find it hard to put down.

4.0 out of 5 stars A surprisingly great friends to lovers story. December 30, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
(3.75 stars)

Poor Fletcher has had feelings for Lexie since he noticed she was all grown up. But her being his best friend's sister and feeling unworthy of her has kept him from making a move. However, Lexie is tired of waiting for Fletcher to make a move and once and for all she's going to find out if there can be something between them. What she was not expecting was to find out that he has been keeping things from her.

I liked this story. Although it was short and it dragged a bit in the middle of it, I found myself intrigued by Fletcher and enjoying how flustered he became whenever Lexie was near him. The story flowed nicely, with funny moments and serious, emotional ones too.

I enjoyed Fletcher and Lexie's rapport and watching as the friendship they had finally became something more. Fletcher's secrets weren't over the top, but made him more interesting and complex in a way. I liked that he managed to surprise Lexie even after all the years they had known each other. I liked Lexie too. She was direct, funny and completely determined to get to Fletcher. I admired her tenacity because that man was stubborn!

Of course, they had chemistry abound. That first kiss alone was scorching hot and it only got better as their emotion truly came into play.

All in all, a surprisingly great friends to lovers story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Sexy Romance November 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Fletcher Owens has not had a great life, but the one thing he could count on was his best friend Sean Sinclair and his twin sister Lexie. Their family became like his family while growing up and he would never do anything to risk that, not even act on his feelings towards Lexie. Fletcher is quiet, sensitive and afraid of blood. To conquer that fear he decides to volunteer for the Search and Rescue team, but doesn't want the attention he knows that will bring so he keeps it secret from his best friends.

Lexie is outgoing and bubbly, a fundraiser for a local charity. She loves her twin brother and Fletcher but hates feeling like an outsider in the trio. When they hang out without her she feels left out as they are truly her best friends as well. When Fletcher's secret is revealed in the local paper she is shocked that she really doesn't know him as well as she thought. Lexie ends up on a rescue mission with Fletcher and what they discover about each other surprises them both.

I fell in love with this novella immediately, I love this romantic trope. I felt that the traditional gender roles in these kinds of stories were flipped, which I really appreciated. Often in romance novels we see the confident, outgoing males who will get what they want no matter want and in this one while Fletcher was definitely a strong male, he has his quirks and anxieties. Which made me love him even more. The rescue mission with Lexie interacting with Fletcher and the whole team was the best part of the book for me as it revealed Lexie's strengths, that she didn't know she had. The banter between Lexie and the other guys slowly revealed more of Lexie to Fletcher that he didn't know was there.

Both characters have a lot of depth and are well thought out for a short story.

More About the Author

Tamara Morgan is a contemporary romance author of humorous, heartfelt stories with flawed heroes and heroines designed to get your hackles up and make your heart melt. Her long-lived affinity for romance novels survived a B.A. degree in English Literature, after which time she discovered it was much more fun to create stories than analyze the life out of them.

Whether building Victorian dollhouses, consuming mass quantities of coffee and wine, or crying over cheesy 1950s musicals, Tamara commits to her flaws like every good heroine should. She lives in the Inland Northwest with her husband, daughter, and variety of household pets and only occasionally complains about the weather.
