Editorial Reviews

The In Concert series brings you extraordinary vocalists such as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Bobby Darin, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin, in rare, vintage, live performances of their greatest songs, newly remastered for DVD.

Eddie Fisher, whose tumultuous personal life almost eclipsed his superb musicianship, delights us with some of his biggest and best songs, performed on live television during his heyday in the 1950s.

Much more than just the handsome and charismatic husband of some of Hollywood's greatest beauties, Eddie Fisher was one of the most popular singers of his - or any - generation.

As a bonus, there's Eddie Fisher Rarities - a fascinating collection of unusual Eddie Fisher material including a very revealing interview, rare newsreels, and movie trailers!

This is a cheap compilation of excerpts from Rosie's TV show and not a concert performance as the title suggests. The video and sound quality is average and the selection of songs is uneven. She lip-syncs to Nelson Riddle's fine arrangements while fiddling with props on a sterile, cartoonish set that looks like a children's show. In many sequences, she is pregnant and hiding behind windows and giant bows. Also released as "Rosemary Clooney Singing at Her Best." For hardcore fans only who may enjoy the extra interview with Edward R. Murrow.

Format: DVD
Bad news for Patti Page fans - this dvd IN CONCERT SERIES: PATTI PAGE is actually the still available dvd PATTI PAGE SINGS THE HITS cut down from 15 songs to ten, from the same company no less, Passport. The dvd sleeve claims the dvd is "approximately 50 min" - same length as the older dvd with 50 percent more music! The songs on this dvd are:

1 On a Wonderful Day Like Today
2 Born to Lose
3 Unchained Meldoy
4 What Now My Love
5 Love Come Back to Me
6 This is My Song
7 The First Time We Went Waltzing
8 Lady Be Good
9 Lazy River
10 Ballin' the Jack

These tracks are all in B&W and from 1950's tv appearances, print quality is very mediocre but then a lot of tv footage from that era only survives in this form. The best footage from the previous release does not even make it on to this collection: a greatest hits melody by Patti and a performance of standards accompanied by Liberace.

Only the "bonus features" are new and they are quite short, two interview excerpts of Patti apparently from some 1980's tv appearance and a trailer to the infamously bad 1960 film DONDI in which Patti costarred with David Janssen. Only a Patti Page completist might be interested in this set given it's the exact same price as the longer edition and even they might think twice given the back cover blurb "This DVD is not endorsed by Patti Page".
